Is there a difference in V6 Vs. V8 Rearends?

Newbie needs some info.
I am working on a 1952 Ford F1 and want an Explorer 8.8 rear-end, with disc brks. Someone told me not to get the rear-end from a V-6, but did not say why. Why not use a V6?

With the exception of gears... Are the V-8's different?
What about the 2WD and 4WD, rearends?
Are the autos and stick shifts the same rearends?

If, anyone has answers, please, let me know.

An explorer rear axle 8.8 assembly is an explorer rear axle 8.8 assembly. If it has disc brakes it wont matter much between the V6 or the V8.
The differences are that the V8 will likely be the limited slip and the axle housing will have two spots on the front of the housing that the "anti-wrap" bars will attach.
No differences between a 2WD or a 4WD model.
 






There is no difference that I know of. All 95-01 Explorers should have the same 8.8" rear axle with disc brakes. There may be minor differences across the years as VSS/ABS sensors changed, but the only internal diffferences would be gear ratio and open or limited slip differentials.

91-94 Drum brakes
95-01 Disc Brakes
02+ IRS

All axle shafts will interchange 91-01 and all other 8.8 parts will interchange between all years.
 






The only difference is the extra tabs for the control arms, anti-wrap bars, whatever you want to call them. The v8 axles will almost all have 3.73 gears with limited slip. The v6 axles will be a mix of 3.73, 4.10, and a few wih 3.55, with and without limted slip.
