i dont think there is one for 97..... but a lot of people on here modify the ranger kit and get it to work

Ya, you want Performance Accesories kit #853(95-97 3" Ranger kit). You'll need to order front bumper brackets from the #883 kit(98-00 Ranger 3"). Other than that the kit has everything you need except you'll have to get 2 extra 1/2" coarse thread locknuts for two of the body mounts.

Here is the basic layout of how the install goes. Mine is a '01, but 95-01 are very much alike except for steering extensions and a few other very minor things.

iff ordering.... do not get them from the mfg or same company... they wont sell them to you.... liability issue....

Yes they will, order them from Offroad unlimited or off road warehouse.

If you get the kit and brackets at the same time they don't care. If you get the brackets by themselves later is when they won't do it.

If you have a problem call Perf. Acc. and talk to Mary. Tell her what you are doing and they will get you what you need.

JC Whitney is another place you can get them... I have ordered the 2" Explorer and the 3" Ranger from them.

Oh ya, JC Whitney too....

Thanks Brian...

Offroad Unlimited wouldn't have a thing to do with selling me the kit once I told them I was going to put it on my Explorer. They claimed to have called PA and said that PA told them that there is a reason they don't sell a body lift kit for the Explorer. It was almost enough to change my mind regarding the lift, however enough people here convinced me and now I am glad I did the lift.

Offroad Warehouse would not sell me the brackets individually. I tried ordering the #853 kit and bumper brackets from the #883 kit but they would not sell them to me. The man I spoke with took down my information and then called me back about an hour later. He said he just got off the phone with PA and they would not sell individual parts to their kits. I ended up just buying the #853 kit and made my own brackets.

Definately do not tell the place where you are ordering from what you plan on putting it on. It may be to your advantage to order the brackets seperately from another location and try telling them you were in an accident and need new front bumper brackets. The rears won't work anyway so it is still easier to just get two pieces of 1/4" plate steel that is 3"x7" and drill your own holes.

Telling them you were in a accident may work if Mary can't help, but I don't under stand why you can't make the rear bumper brackets from the kit work. They worked on all the Explorers we did body lifts on. From the '95 up to the '01.
You would be best off ordering the 883 kit and then calling PP and telling them that your Ranger needs the stearing extention from the other kit because the extention was broke in an accident. The extention is the only real difference between the kits. Here is a quote from our experience with 95-01 body lifts...

Some of you Explorer owners may already know that bodylifts for 95-01 Explorers are currently unavailable. But wait! All is not lost! Performance Accessories makes a series of 3" bodylifts for the 95-01 Rangers. The Ranger is identical to the Explorer from the cab forward so it appears that these kits will work on Explorers. Well, they do and we have been very successful with installations. Performance Accessories produces two kits, one for 95-97's and one for 98-01's. The main difference with these kits is the steering extension and bumper brackets. The 98-01 kit will work on ALL 95-01 Explorers with the exception of the steering extension on 95-97's. Here's the catch, you need the steering extension from the 95-97 kit for 95-97's, but the 95-97 kit does not have the correct bumper lift brackets so after a few hit and misses we found it easier to order the 98-01 kit and then specify that you need the 95-97 extension. When purchasing your bodylift kit, order the 98-00 kit #883. If you have a 95-97, make sure you exchange the 98-00 steering extension for the 95-97 extension. The extensions are very different and cannot be interchanged so make sure you specify which one you need.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Performance Accessories makes excellent kits and are top of the line. Installation time averages around 8 hrs with help from a few friends. The kit price is around $130 which is the cheapest 3" lift around. If you are looking for some lift and on a budget then this is the way to go.

Hope this helps, but I would trust 2001ExpSport. He has put on 8 bodylifts on 95,97,98,99 and 01 Explorers. Robert does have a good idea about the accident thing tho.

I bought the 90-94 2" lift kit (#792) from Rosser Jeep and ordered the front bumper brackets from the 883 kit directly from PA. It can be done. Don't tell them what u r doing though.

The rear brackets can be made to work, however there was more work involved to get them to work than just drilling four holes in a 3"x7" piece of 1/4" plate steel. In the write-up the holes had to be drilled, the brackets welded onto the frame and then an extra piece of metal cut off. Buying the pre-cut plate steel was only a few dollars and took about 20 minutes to drill the holes. If you can buy individual parts directly from PA, then the steering extension is probably cheaper than buying new bumper brackets. In that case I would get the 883 kit and order the extension from PA. I never contacted PA directly, only through the two shops. How much do the front brackets from the 883 kit go for?

I think it was like $30. about $13 each plus shipping/COD fee. it was either 30 or 40.

Just to set everyone straight. I was refering to the FRONT bumper brackets only. The rear bumper brackets are the same 95-01. PA will exchange steering exteniosns, but you'll have to send in yours to get the replacement. I have never heard of so many problems with these kits. When we order them we get the kit and brackets no problem.

Wow...this is getting confusing. So if i were to lift my 95 EB 4x4, what parts would i need from which kit??!!

You'd need kit #853 and front bumper brackets from the #883 kit.

I will call Mary tomorrow and see if there is some way to set up some sort of kit or something.

Or kit #883 with the steering extension from kit #853. Choose whichever method is the cheapest in the end. The only difference between the two kits is the front bumper brackets and the steering extension. The rest of the parts are the same. For a '95 Explorer you need the extension from an 853 kit. All '95-'01 Explorers need the front bumper brackets from the #883 kit. Possibly not the 2001 Sports though. Ask 2001ExpSport to confirm on that since the front bumper is different.

Thanks guys. And thanks 2001expSport for calling Mary. I find it really silly that PA won't just combine parts and make another kit available from their parts bin. I don't see how packing things differently from whatever you already make in the first place, jacks up production costs.

It probably has more to do with trying to avoid lawsuits. After all of the bad publicity that the Explorer has been getting, the last thing PA wants is to officially market an Explorer lift kit and then have someone flip their Explorer over with the kit on. Same reason that a lot of tire companies (costco, sam's club) won't put a tire size on an Explorer that wasn't an option. They received a letter from Ford preventing them from doing it. With as many silly lawsuits happening every day, it could be bad for business if someone sued PA because their Explorer rolled over after they put on a PA lift kit, regardless of the reason it flipped over. Pretty soon you will probably start getting release forms that must be filled out and returned before any modification company will sell you anything.

I thought this was easy

man this is rreally confusing now.....

tell me if I'm wtong I need #853's bumper kit
#883's body kit and I got to exchange steering kit from huh???

mmmmmmm?????

No, you need the front bumper brackets from kit #883. You need the steering extension from kit #853. This is for '95-'97.
