Over the years, I've had multiple broken wires in the 'boot' between Driver Side Jamb and Door. I fix as I find them, but it is getting messy in there. I try to keep things working and obviously it is getting long in the tooth.

I'm trying to learn if there is any 'shorter section' of harness that I could replace in that area (out of salvage yard, with similar door switch set up) with one that seems to be in better shape than mine. By replace, I mean uncouple on both ends and swap out. Not going to splice all of the wires in that bundle (unless I wind up doing it one at a time as they break!).

Some older posts state "....there is a plug behind the kick panel....". Is there any sort of disconnect behind the kick panel or is that just where the harness splits off in different directions?

I've gone so far as removing kick panel and trying to 'peek' behind, but I have not removed the E-brake mechanism so I really can't see behind it. Thought I'd ask first to see if there really is any need to remove and keep going. (If there is no disconnect, it would involve pulling out what looks to be a main (and long) harness and probably not going to do that at this point.

Another way to ask the question is "Where is the first disconnect INSIDE the cabin on the harness that comes through the Driver Side door jamb?"

I realize there is the separate harness in the door, but that side is not my problem. The breaks are all in the wires between the plug disconnect at the jamb and the jamb.

Thanks for any knowledge on that harness.

Above the foot brake pedal there is a big square plug for the drivers door wiring
It can be a real pita to get to on the drivers side but yes it is there and yes you can unplug the entire door wiring

Good to know there's a plug there. I recently had to re-do the main power wire but with a back injury, was already pushing it, working with the wire with the kick panel removed. Luckily I was able to get to the wire and put the new solder joint in the kickwell area.

Does the parking brake pedal assembly need to come off to access that plug above it? Any tips on getting the pedal assembly off if it does need to come off?

Any tips on taking apart the connector in the door hinge area that the boot slides onto? I would have liked to pull the pin out and put the new wire on it instead of a 2nd solder joint, but did not want to break the connector. It looked like there were two tiny black plastic tabs near the center of the red insert on the connector but didn't want to push my luck.

I have a 96 outside w the front doors removed
I will get some pictures
