To start I hate my 14" magnaflow muffler. Sounds terrible and ricey. Is there anything at all that would make my truck sound somewhat like a truck?!

Sound clips would be appreciated. And yes I have been making my way through the 4.0L Exhaust sound clip thread.

My catback used the Gibson 788500 muffler. I like it a lot...basically sounds like stock on steroids.

Here's a vid...short and not necessarily the best representation (camera picked up the mechanical noises of the engine) but it has a nice sound I think, with some cool popping noises when letting off the gas. Inside it's a noticeable difference than stock but not so loud that I'd have to raise my voice to be heard by another passenger.

Sounds nice. I was looking for the PN for that gibson for a while now.

To add this in:
I did an "experiment" with those duals. They were 2.25" pipe. I noticed the sound was actually deeper when the pipe was reduced by .25"

Interesting on the pipe diameter size. Mine uses 2.5" but is obviously a single pipe. I also still have the "3rd Cat".

I believe the Gibson part I listed is a larger muffler than the Magnaflow you run, so that is why it is quieter and milder sounding.

Also, if you are looking for stainless steel just get that same part number but with the "S" on the end. Mine is almost 2 years old now and is still shiny and rust-free as it was new. The rest of the piping unfortunately is rust-brown, though...guess that wasn't stainless.

Hmm... My muffler was supposedly stainless but its rusting and the pipe is shiny. :)

mine with flowmaster 40, no 3rd cat, stock size pipe

As much as I like my magnaflow like nharris said it does have a ricey sound to it, i noticed it at 2500 rpms or so. I was wondering if deleting the third cat/resonator would help the sound out at all. Also was wondering if the exhaust tip contributes to the slight rice sound.

Removing the 3rd cat should help tremendously, When I cut mine out I looked through it and there were so many screens and what not you could barely see light. I think if you pt a 3" + size tip then it would prob change the sound, My tip is just 2.5" and I dont have a problem. The only reason it sounds "ricey" is because of its lack of cylinders....

Idk what the tip size is on the magnaflow cat back for this car, i think 4" dont know what difference that makes.

however for the 3rd cat, will a shop give me problems for that? or will they just do it without a problem?

IDK a shop shouldn't have a problem w/ it, it have no o2 sensors alot of people call it a resonator and say its just to keep stock exhaust quiet and emission sticklers happy...
I passed texas emissions the other day

Ill see if my mechanic can do it for me. Thanks for your advice!

I have a flow master and it sounds awesome!try new pipes i installed the one from f250 sounds great!

Flowmaster 40 is the way to go, nice and deep, very deep i <3 mine

I have dual cherrybomb glasspacks that i think sound amazing, cut the exhaust right off after the cats and welded on 2 side by side cherrybombs that dump out in front of the rear axle

Personally I hate the way Flowmasters sound. I had one on my Silverado Z71 and hated it, and my Mustang GT came with one (ordered a new cat-back 20 minutes after signing paperwork for it). I had a Gibbson on my S-10 Extreme and it sounded nice.

I was thinking of going with a FM44 or FM50.

Arent the 44's LOUD? and the 50 series and 70 are verrrrrry quiet
