The rear diff on our 05 xlt sport isn't leaking a drop so I don't want to open it but I do want to clean it out. Would it hurt anything to do the following: remove the fill and drain plugs and let it fully drain out, spray an entire can of brake cleaner in the fill hole after draining to flush out the remaining oil and hopefully any loose metal grit, blow compressed air in the fill hole to blow out residual brake cleaner and grit, then refill it? Not sure if the diff has been serviced but I did check it through the fill hole and it was full.

i see no issue with itz, every other change (change ecery 30k, overkill, i know) i just suck it out thru the fill hole, as imo i notice most debrus stays suspended in the oil, but i see no problem with spraying brakeleen as long as it doesnt get on the seals. imo, i would just open it though, theybmake gaskets, and uve changed that gasket not sure how many times now and it hasnt ever leaked! also if tou remove good time to replace clutch pack if its lsd, or if it hasnt been dine maybe the bearings and seals? idk i did mine preemtative, since its not like i do that every 3k...

Thanks. Other than potentially messing with the seals I couldn't see anything wrong either. I don't want to open it unless I have to, the plan is to use my borescope camera to visually inspect it through the fill and drain holes and only open it if something looks bad. It's running great, no issues, just want to get all the fluids changed.

nothing wrong with changing fluids, cheap insurance! (well cheap relative to new diff) just avoid the seals, spray on the metal parts, and all should be good! when i had the lid off i did use some brakeleen on certan parts, so i see no issue with it with what ive done!
