The wife and I are in the market for a used X and were wondering if this was a fair price.

2001 Red XLT,4X4, appears fully loaded,
50,800k (highway miles per owner)
Price: $14,000

I think it's has the 6cyl 4.0 with automatic trans but I just sent an email to the owner to confirm.

Any reliability issues with the 2001? Any recalls to watch out for? I plan on taling a look at it in person this weekend. Any thing I should look for particulary.

Thanks for all the help. Junebug

14k sounds like a reasonable price for a 2001 xlt as long as it's in good condition. You might want to get a carfax on it and see if it has any history. Try doing a Search there are many threads on buying used explorer's and what to watch out for.

what 4.0 engine there are 2 differentg ones. the price seems a grand too high but depending on the condition i would say go for it

Get them to come down a bit

I got mine about the same shape (4.0 SOHC which is probably what that one has) 4x4 loaded but not quite fully 2000 (but bought it last year so age is about the same) 60,000k for $11,900 Mine is a four door AT pretty well everything but message center (that computer thingie in the console) and 6 disc changer it also lacked the leather and a subwoffer other than that fully loaded. YOurs is probably the same. But, well, I got mine in AR part of that depends on where you live. I also have towing package and aftermarket hitch.

You have to consider the cost of everything in Jersey is higher, and from what i've seen 14k isnt bad if it's in good shape. Considering the truck is only about 3 years old and probably sold in the high 20s new.
