I went to my local 4x4 shop today and the guy gave me a price of $520 to replace only my rear gears(all i have) 3.27s to 4.11s (this includes everything including new bearings) and for $200 more he would but in a brand new ford limited slip (powertrax). This sounded alittle expensive? Are his prices about right. Normally his prices bet out anybody else around here. Should i go look in the junk yard for a wrecked x with this step up??

yea, I paid close to $600 recently for just a rear-end rebuild.

Gears usually cost $200-$250 and labor is anywhere from $200-$300 so $500 is a pretty good deal.

sounds like a good deal. i wanted to go from my 3.27s to 4.10, but the $1200 price scared me away....

that is a good deal for rear gears and the locker if it includes the locker and the gears.... the locker alone probably retails for like $250

Yeah thats a pretty good price. I paid about 550 for my old 4.10s to be put in my ranger.

Go for it.

Thanks guys for the help.
Soon as i get enough money i will do the gears and the limited slip.

ouch i was thinking of getting my truck regeared. looks like ill buy a 2nd rear drive shaft and try to do it myself and then pay someone to do the front.

The only thing I would be concerned about is the fact that a Ford Limited Slip and Powertrax Lock-Right are two TOTALLY different things.

The Limited Slip is a Limited Slip and the Lock-Right is a locker.

$200 for the locker is cheap. They retail for over $300.

$200 for the limited slip is pretty cheap too. Not sure what those retail from Ford, but it can't be $200.

So make sure you know what's going in there.
