Okay.First off, this is my truck.. http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=329513&cat=20&val=50
Now I have had some big dreams about possibly building up a big bad blown 5.0, (big fat blower through the hood and all) in my 96 xlt. Now suspension wouldn't really be a problem for this, but the big thing would definately be the drive line. Now to handle this type of power i would obviously need a different tranny (it will be carberated, thus this won't work, right?), driveshaft?,Rearend?. Now I know no one has ever done this, and it's really possible...i know it. Okay now the motor will bolt up right? that wouldn't be an issue I don't think, all ford 5.0s are the same, carberated or not, basically...am I right? Now the tranny, is there any particular tranny that would bolt up and fit my truck that could handle the power? I don't give a rats ass about the 4wd, consider that gone. Now, maybe I just have the mentality of a hotrodder, if it doesn't fit.....make it, and if it hasn't been done.....do it. That's kinda my goal. As you can see on my webpage, I'm not afraid to cut into my truck and start a major project...and I don't care about practicality and cost etc, that most people are quick to fire back at forums like this. It's just because it will be cool. What I am asking Is if anyones has any knowledge of what would be necessary to make this a reality...help me out. See, I'm not bragging by anymeans, but I got into a bit of a fender bender some time ago (which resulted to the roll pan) and i just got my insurance money/settlement....I figure it would only be right to put it back into my truck :D

Sorry for the thread hi jack, need anyhelp with the Expo give me a holla...

its possible, dont know what its going to cost, but it wont be cheap....

Why do you think that no one has done this before? 5.0 swaps are quite common in RBVs.

Nice looking truck. Didn't read your post entirely, but there is a company(name escapes me) that makes a standalone computer for the stock Explorer tranny. You could also steel the AWD case from one. But why go carbed? Finding a donor '96 with a 302 would be a easy(heh!) job. Then you could build the motor up similarly, be able to play with the comptuer, and keep emissions(:p) and such, plus diagnostics.

One thing though, please take the wing off :p

whoa dude , you live like right behind me!!!!!!! You are right near blockbuster right???? yeah yeah I remember...damn, well I work @ econo paint and body... you should swing by ask for ray...

Yep, i came by your house one day, but you werent home you mom was, this waqs a while ago, before all the hurricances.... you drive you x to work? i get outta school early tommorow, we have half days cause of finals, so i might swing by....

Yea, anything is possible with a big enough bank roll. Creager has the best suggestion though. But, if you currently have a 4.0, then you will have to change out the PCM, and harness (at the very least), they are not the same for a 4.0 and 5.0.

IMO a carberated 5.0 with the T-5, a Paxton or Eaton SC (under the hood) to keep it looking clean. You could even do that with the 4.0 and get a respectable amount of HP.

You have good lines and either know someone with good body working skills, or have developed your own. The Caddy taillights look awesome, are they LED's or late 80's incadecent's?

Nice looking ride. I am looking forward to a :finished" project picture series. "Finished" because they never are.......right?

Good Luck.

thanks for the tips and help guys, but the look I want is that big chrome supercharger and air scoop sticking up out the hood. Power isn't my only goal, or else I'd do a simple 5.0 swap, but I want something large, chrome, and carberated for that "muscle car" edge to It, know what i mean?

WOW! I can't really help you because I don't know all that much about engine swaps, etc. but I just wanted to say that you have one bad a$$ looking Explorer! If you wind up going this route (or do any engine swap for that matter) I would love to see it. It would make yours even nicer than it is now. ;)

sweet lookin Ex man.
I hope to see more photos
