Is this normal??

ok guys found out some more stuff researching. Sounds like it could be my booster. this website says that if i hear hissing when i depress my brake pedal then thats bad. Well never really picked up on this either and well when i depress my brakes i get that hissing sound. And my brakes dont really grab that well, but thats jsut probably because i need new brakes...

Yea that could cause a vacuum leak which would cause some of the problems you described like the idle.

okay well just went out to my car after that last post and found the problem almost immediately, the hissing noise is coming from the gromet that connects the vacuum hose to the brake booster. Well the gromet is practically ripped in half. So i went to Auto zone.... they dont have it. but i did a pressure test and its fine at idle then levels off at 2500. So then i went to Napa to find the part... they dont have it. So on my way home i come up to the light and my brakes barely stopped me... kind of a scary thing. Is it safe to keep driving with it like this because it got worse as i had to keep pulling it off?? And where the hell am i going to find this thing?

Also, could this really be causing me the poor gas mileage and poor performance?

It is very possible thats your problem since the engine is leaking vacuum through that torn seal.

Also since the MAF has to measure all the air entering the engine in order for the PCM to calculate the correct air/fuel ratio and since this is unmetered air it causes the engine to run lean which the O2 sensor picks up and tells the computer to richen the mixture which means the engine is running rich and is why you have poor performance and gas mileage.

oh okay thanks man for explaining that for me in laymen terms. but now that ive solved that... do u have any idea where i can find this part. napa ordered me one that kind of looks like it but not really, which it may work i dont know.
So does anybody know where i can get this?

dammit i wish that was what i needed but its like the seal thing i need that sits both inside and outside of the brake booster. Do u think a Ford dealer would have one?

yea i would try that but i just went outside and looked at my car, and i dont think i would be able to get that to fit in the hose.

What wont fit in the hose? I was talking about looking for the rubber seal at the dealer

okay well i checked all the dealers and ford discontinued the part. but i found a rubber grommet at napa that kind of fits but still leaks the slightest bit of air. If anyone could mail me this part off of an explorer sittin around thatd be great ill pay for for it.

thanks man i tried contacting robbie, so hopefully i can get that from him. but as to the grommet im using now, is there anything i can use like a liquid sealer to put around the rubber seal to make it really air tight until i can get an actual one?

okay well i finally found the part i needed this morning and am running some BG44k through it... bu twe have a problem. it really isnt rrunning any better at all, i also just cleaned my MAF last night...:(:(:( so guess i need to start thinking again. an di went to autozone to pull some codes and the mother ####er said their isnt a code reader for my car and to use a close pin and put it somewhere...and watch for flashes.. WTF? and sorry to go on a rant but every auto part store i go they treat me like **** cause im only 16. sorry

but as to my problem anyone else have any suggestions, and i remember just reading a thread about the car not running idling right in park but was idling fine in neutral or drive, what causes this?
And any other suggestions be great!!:exporange:roll:

okay forgot to add some more info to that last post here is some more info
-put my finger inside the tail pipe and black soot, but no black smoke and exhaust looks fine just kind of smells funky, maybe because of the BG44k
-Did another vacuum test on that hose and the dude told me it read like .5 ? or something at idle, then .3 at 2500. Not sure if he just said that weird or wat
-vacuum is completely sealed now
-no improvement from vacuum seal fix
-next thing i do.... how do i test my FPR? and after that how do i get those bolts off the cat?

The bolts on the cat are a 14mm or 9/16 but if there rusted on pretty good and stripped then you may have to cut it off.

k theyre not really stripped thank god but ill try some sea foam creep and wd40. and do u think its more likely my cat causing all the problems since the pressure dropped?
