Is this the torsion bar

Im attempting a torsion twist and I wanna make sure Im twisting the right bolts before I start so I took of a picture of what I thought was the torsion bar. Someone just take a look please and tell me if Im on the right track.

No, that's the swaybar connecting bolt. Keep that tight. The torsion bar bolts are located rearward towards the tranny. Actually, mine are accessable through "windows" in the tranny crossmember. I believe this is where they're located for all torsion bar X's.
 






Sorry pal, that isn't it. That looks like a sway bar end link. The torsion bar runs parallel to the frame(it's horizontal, not vertical like the end link) from a bracket near the transmission crossmember to the A-arm.
 






The actual bolt that you will turn is located underneath about at the middle of the doors. You will see a black square like cover on them.
 






In addition to what the others have posted, your torsion bar is the only 3 foot long bar going from your front A-arm to about the middle of your Explorer. It is about 1 inch in diameter. You have one on each side. The bolt you turn is at the end of these bars in the center of the vehicle.

so about how far do you need to twist these bolts (one one each side - i presume the same amount on each). also, can i just do this like in my driveway or do i have to jack the vehicle off teh ground beforehand to get weight off the wheels. sorry, but one more ignorant question, does this only take effect in teh front axle? thanks for answering my questions, they may seem dumb because i am now at this but am trying to learn.

If you would've used this site's search feature, you could've found those answers. However, I'll be nice just this once ;)

I twisted my bolts 6-7 rotations I believe to get about 2". For substantial adjustments, it's better to lift the wheels off the ground. For minor adjustments, you can leave it on the ground, but it's harder to turn the bolts. And yes, the TT only affects the front axle directly, but may affect the stance of the entire vehicle due to weight transfer.
 






Turn the bolts until you have 3/8" of thread left. I don't recommend you turning them any farther than that.
 












dont you need to have a wheel alignment after the torsion twist is done? someone told me taht and i was wondering if this was true. thanks.

Yes, its true. Get the alignment done asap after the TT is done.
