Is transmission compatible?

I have a 96 Explorer 4x4 with a bad transmission (there's no 4th gear). I am wondering if the tranny from my 94 Mazda Navajo (not 4x4) would fit in the Explorer. I have a friend who says he can make the switch, but we need to find out if the parts are compatible first. Thanks!

Welcome to this forum! The 96 Explorer has a 4R55E with an OBD-II system. The 94 has an A4LD with an EEC-IV system. You can't swap them without having electrical issues.

Bummer. Oh well, thanks for the info Brooklyn Bay! I was hoping instead of having 2 trucks that run sub-par, I could put them together and at least have one good vehicle. I should've known it wouldn't be that easy! LOL

You could rebuild the transmission yourself with the information on this site.
