As to my former thread I found the problem with the 4WD auto locks.
The answer lyes in the cam assembly. Ford made there first cams out of plastic and hade a recall cause the teeth on the cam would just sheir off.
Its an easy miss cause its not really noticable. Ford later came out with a much stronger cam made from metal and has a single spring on the bottom.
So before you decide to give up completly check to see if this is the case. Although ford dosen't sell the peace sepratly, I'm sure you can easily find one at a local junk yard.
