IVT Request - Sync 3 Upgrade

Not if you have the rear controls turned off via the MFT display. If it's turned off via the display and it takes a dump on you, then it's off. I know my kids had no control of the rear when our MFT took a dump and had to be replaced (rear controls was off when it crapped out). The rear controls were dead until the APIM was replaced and I re abode the rear control.

That is correct, my rear controls were dead all the time while I was waiting for new APIM (the one in vehicle became dead and I was driving dead MFT for three weeks).

I'll wait and see what happens, and how the new system works.

If it's something that finally fixes all the problems that have existed over time with MFT, then we can talk about whether or not Ford should be "encouraged" to update existing vehicles.

No chance people will encourage Ford to do something, unless Ford decides to do so.
How many people and for how long asked Ford to make "navigation after the buy" become possible? Nothing has changed. Even though it would've been additional cash flow for Ford...
Ford is stubborn and stupid... isolated from its customers...
Unless people in US will sue Ford for having piece of not working junk in their cars. Canada's people gonna suffer still regardless of court ruling, because of different law.

It shows as being $650.67 on the Ford parts website.

Peter

Which we all know is more then the many discounted Ford part websites. The $536 is 10% above cost so true cost depending on size of dealership is about $487.

I guess that may still be true in the 2016. I guess we'll have to wait and see what exactly the changes are in the new model. Since I'm the only one in the vehicle, I've never used anything except the front vents and the vehicle feels nice and warm after a while. Besides, in the Winter I'm usually also wearing a Winter coat and don't crank up the heat.
Happy New Year Denis. Sunday is supposed to be 10 degress (50F) and rain. Then a flash freeze. Should be interesting.;)

Peter

Happy New Year Peter! All the best wishes! Its great to have someone omnipresent on this forum! Today its -20 in Calgary, snowing.

It wont be a problem to order new APIM unit and may be to install SYNC 3 on it, problem would be to configure it properly to make it work in our Ex's.
Here we need someone like on SHO forum, who has Ford's software and knows what he is doing...

P.S. I think anyone can buy Ford's software, but it is costly and you'll need some learning curve to get used to it.

Yes that is true. Even my dealer's parts manager has charged me less than what the Ford parts website lists.

"Encouragement" can take many forms.

There is a big difference between adding navigation, or any other factory option after the vehicle is built, and providing a working piece of equipment as part of a vehicle that carries a warranty.

MFT has only 5 years, so starting late this year Ex's will start losing MFT warranty and bye-bye...

Whalen v. Ford Motor Company is a class action over MyFord Touch being inherently defective and unfit for the purpose for which it was sold. Filed in summer 2013, most claims against Ford were found valid to stand trial (not that they will be found valid by a jury necessarily) as of May 2014.

Discovery is now starting where the plaintiff counsel will get access to the MyFord Touch source code and documentation on problems with MFT and how problems with MFT lead to the switch to QNX. If it does go to trial, it would be October 2016 or later.

Most likely Ford settles. Guess it depends on how ugly the picture is internally at Ford and where/when they knew MFT was so broken. Wouldn't keep my fingers crossed for a free upgrade to Sync 3 or anything (the suit seeks damages and a recall/replacement with a non-defective system for all MyFord/MyLincoln Touch equipped vehicle owners in the US, but if Ford settles they're going to do it because it would be cheaper than such a move).

These lawsuits are ridiculous. Only person that wins are the attorneys. Did you see how many attorneys are listed on that? How much of the pie do you think they will eat up of any settlement?

New Parrot Head Unit

The new Parrot RND 6 head unit (Android and Apple Play compatible) was just announced for a 2015 release and apparently handles climate control. Not enough info yet to know if it would be able to control heated/cooled seats, rear climate, or the ford vehicle management network.

http://blog.parrot.com/2015/01/05/c...most-advanced-in-vehicle-infotainment-system/

On a separate topic, anyone who has had an APIM go out, do the 4 inch instrument cluster screens go dark when the APIM is down or are they controlled through a different interface. Wondering if you put an after market radio in would you lose the functionality of RPM/Fuel Guage/etc.. from the left side and the extra media view stuff from the right.

Thanks,

Chartman

Some are ridiculous, some prompt change in the industry. Attorney's fees are usually awarded as a separate line item in damages. That being said the likely award would be the 795.00 US price of the MFT option for anyone that purchased a vehicle equipped with MFT. Because realistically that is all we're out in damages. They don't tend to take into account that the part can't be replaced by a working version w/out replacing the entire vehicle.

I haven't had an APIM issue but I'm guessing that the two information display screens would not be affected. The reasoning is that the APIM is said to be the 'brains' of the MyFord Touch system which I don't believe includes the information display screens.

Not in class action settlements. Attorney's fees would be separate if it went to trial and they won, but in settlements they can negotiate fat fees for attorneys and shrink the pie down for the class.

The MFT system is alleged to harm the vehicle price as a whole beyond its cost, harm features related to it that are still more money (navigation, reareview camera, premium sound, etc.) and present an actual safety issue when things don't work right (depend on rearview camera, MFT goes out, no camera, MFT is buggy, can't enable the rear defroster in certain vehicles, etc.), plus they allege that Ford knowingly sold the system despite knowing the problems. So a jury could find them liable for far more than the purchase price of the system, particularly on punitive damages.

That said, Ford is almost certainly going to settle it and we'll all get some tiny check with an odd dollar amount and some number of cents. The beauty of a class action lawsuit is that you get a chunk of the pie without doing anything, but since it's typically a settlement both sides take to avoid further cost and risk on full litigation, it's a very small chunk of the pie except for the plaintiffs and attorneys who represent the class and took the risk/time/expense to bring it forward in the first place.

Of course, if you don't agree with a settlement, you can opt out of it and retain your rights to sue ford separately. Which is an uphill battle.

And I still stand by my belief that MFT is not broken since 3.6 was released. Yes, definitely growing pains when it first came out but I think this type of lawsuit is once again, ridiculous. MFT has bene VASTLY improved and works very well now. One may have a defective APIM and if so, there have been updates to it with updated part numbers. I think this issue has been resolved as well.

As far as the 5 year warranty goes, nobody is going to warranty something for life.. All this does is make the attorneys rich because this will NOT go to trial.

I disagree on MFT being fixed in 3.6, I have problems regularly on 3.7.

And the idea is it will be punitive to Ford and be a punishment that will make them think twice before releasing a system like MFT again. Primarily it will enrich attorneys. If you disagree with the class, you can opt out of it. Of course, doing so will just leave your piece of the pie for the attorneys...

MFT has worked well for me since I got my 2011 Ltd in March 2011. The MLT in my current vehicle also works great. Mind you I only use it for climate, navigation, cell phone and changing radio frequencies/channels all by voice control. I don't have a smart phone or ask it to do some of the other things members use it for. Also, in my case, MFT was not a factor in my initial decision to lease the vehicle.

Pretty much same to me. The most unstable version in my experience was 3.5, but the current one is working OK, sometimes its sluuuuuuuuuuuugish though...

If you are having a major issue then you must have a bad APIM. My 11 has seen 2 reboots since 3.6 has come out. I use it for NAV searches, address and POIs, iPod playing, climate controls, radar maps, temp control.

The ONLY thing I can complain about is the accent lighting resetting back to the light blue which there is a fix for it. I'm just not wasting my time bringing it in just for that.

My 2015 F350 Platinum has been flawless in the 8 months that I've had it. Not a single hiccup with it in any way.

Is it perfect, absolutely not but to say it's broken, sorry I completely disagree.

All the other updates like what?.....sheet metal, lighting, wheel design.....those were never an issue on the current model. No ones complaining about improvements to the model that weren't on the 2011-15 yrs

The issue is since the release of MFT the system was marketed to function with features that did not materialize. Ford has readily admitted MFT was released too early. Jim Farely admitted this in a Ford Town Hall Meeting. Owners were continually mislead that all hands were on deck to fix the MFT fiasco to the original marketed features and satisfaction of it current customers.

Since 2011 this stability has only recently been achieved in v3.6.2 or v3.7 but with reduced functionality.

+1
As many current owners expected the next big update to make up for years of poor software its a big loyalty issue to abandon those customers who stayed the course hoping to be rewarded with the originally promised performance and features.

Saying to customers "if you want what we promised back in 2011 then buy a 2016 model is not only unethical, its the ultimate FU to loyal customers with existing systems.

Its great your happy in a 2015 Ex with MFT but not everyone lies down in the grass and takes it in the..........
