alright here is how it went down. my friend and i we doing some mudding in this drainage ditch by his house. as we are leaving he makes it up the side of the ditch fine in his 4x4 94 jeep grand cherokee and i try to go up in a different spot than he did and as soon as i approach it i hear this screeching sound and then a bang and so i back up and then get out and i looked at my safari bar and it was pushed up against my license plate and then i looked at the mounting brakcets and they had bent outwards. that westin piece of SH**. i know it was sort of my fault, but should the brackets have bent like that? what should i do? try and fix it myself or call westin and see what they can do for me? thanks for any advice beforehand.

Got any pictures of the damage?
You might be able to straighten it out. Try a come-a-long or a winch to pul it out and away from the bumper from each side as close to the bracket as you can. I know Gerald Jarrett has doen this several time to straighten out his Waag grill guard. Hope this helps.:hammer:

i'd take a picture and email it to the manufacture and ask if this is normal under light to moderate use? i've found over the years that on my heavy use vehicles this can work sometimes, because they might want to express good will and promote customer satisfaction, just take a few minutes to make it sound professional. also it can help to write a strong sig line -
ie:"President for the BlahBlah Chapter of ORV and Wilderness Preservation"
not bad - that was off the top of my head:D

HAHAHHAHAHHAHA

I did the SAME thing to my Safari Bar this last weekend up in Big Bear trail 3n16. I did it in one of the rock gardens! BUT at least I can say I made it through the WHOLE trail w/out be strapped once!!!!!!!

My Safari Bar is pushed twards the left about 12" (off center) it is sooo funny.

hmm. . .why didn't i ever buy a safari bar for my Ex. . .oh yeah. . .I looked at those straps of sheetmetal they called mounts and laughed. . . :D

Sorry, not that I want to sound like a punk,. . .but you just have to realize that some things were meant for wheeling and some were meant only for looks.

True Jefe...

I got mine for looks, but it ended up saving my front bumper anyway and took all the damage.

I think I'm going to junk it and buy a full front brush guard, they seem more sturdy.

Are you going to TDS?

Ray, what type do you have? Was it an easy install? Does it have front tow points?

Thanks,
Ron

unfortunately i have had the same problem.. the safari bar is cool to put lights on but sucks for off roading. last time i did it i had to take the brackets off and straighten them on a vice... about two months ago i bent it so bad that while i was tying to get the bolt out it had rusted itself into the bar and ended up snapping off ... it sucked having to drill it

I just use my bumper to take the damage. . it has held up very well so far.

be carefull with the brush guards. Most of them have weak mounts also. Gerald has one and every time he hits it it tweaks the mounts.

As far as TDS. . .I'm not sure yet. I've got other stuff tentatively planned for that weekend as well.

fixed the bar. i put my tow strap around a pole and then onto the safari bar and put it in reverse and that fixed it. but then i was reaiming my cheap A$$ walmart lights and the freaking casing broke. piece of s#!t. guess i am going to have to get some hellas. talk to you guys later. i will be on ebay looking for some lights.

yeah i just put it in gear and let it roll back, but i had somebody watch it pull away and they told me when to stop so it wouldnt be further out than the other side. mine only went in on the driver side so i just threw the strap around that one side and it looked pretty even after i pulled it out. those safari bars have some pretty weak bracketry if you ask me. well catch ya later.
