I have a 2003 XLT 4 door 4.0L and need to know the correct way to jack up the truck. Someone told me to jack the front by the front cross member and place my stands on the front of the frame rails and then raise the rear using the pumpkin and place the stands on the rear of the frame rails. Then another friend told me never raise the truck like that. Can anyone help? Thanks

Never place a jack on the pumpkin. Use the frame.

We've always put the jack under the pumpkin at the racetrack to swap tires on the Mustangs, but that was mainly for convenience- we've never had an issue, but I don't do it under normal circumstances.

I should say that the subject made me think twice before I clicked to read this thread... LOL!

I wouldn't with a 3rd Gen Ex. That mustang isn't that a solid rear axle?
These rears are independent, on my ’04 is aluminum pumpkin with 2 half shafts, nothing I would put a jack under, I use the Frame Rails.

Yep frame rails are probably the best on those, I put it wherever the hell I want on my first gen, but nearly every suspension component is good and solid. On the new ones though, the frame is probably the only solid thing left.

Right- I was talking about a regular 8.8 ford rear- not a Gen III... sorry... :)
