does anyone know the largest possible tire size that will fit the j.d. 2.5" lift. iwant to squeeze 33 12.50s on but would probablly need a body lift too. please help.

oh ya i have a 91 xlt 4x4

With a 2.5 James Duff you can run 31" tires. If you want to use 33"s you would need a 3" body lift. I would go with the 5.5 Superlift I don't like the body lifts. They change the center of mass on the car and make it unstable.

jason,
Green92 is right on the money. With the JD lift, the most that you would want to go with are 31's. Now, you could do what I and several others have done. That is, modify the lift. You can add an inch to this lift very easily. First of all, you would need some 1" spacers to place under the new front coild springs. Secondly, you would either need longer Warrior Shackles to replace the JD lift or use another full length add-a-leaf from someone like Rough Country, etc.
With the modified lift, you could squeeze in 32's, but that would be it.
Hope this helps a little, and if you have any questions, I would be more than happy to help you.
Take care and happy exploring!

We have a 1992 XLT with the James Duff 2.5" lift and Warrior Products 8.5" shackles. With the standard lift 31's fit fine. 32's would hit the front bumper. We made our own rockbumper and now 32's seem to fit fine. Without the new bumper I agree with the previous posts that 32's will fit with a 1" modification to the 2.5" lift.

I ran 32's on the stock rims with a duff lift without any problems. The tires would only rub on the radius arms at full ****. This problem is still pressent on the Superlift 5.5" lift. Tell you the truth I was happier with the Duff lift.

Trace,
I run the Duff 2.5 inch lift with 32's and the dual shock set up also. My question is about stabilizer bar quick connects. With the dual shock brackets on the old stabilizer mounts, how do you do it? Any help or ideas would be appreciated Dead Link Removed
Thanks

If I understand, you used the bracket Duff provided to mount both the front shock and the sway bar link. Correct?

You have two choices since removable disconnect pin on the mount is not an option. A sway bar disconnect similar to the JKS for a Jeep CJ will work. The length may be longer than ideal, but it will still work. The other option is to remove the front sway bar all together. The factory stabilizer bracket can be ground to provide clearance for shock mounting. The dual shocks will compensate for the body roll. I ran mine that way using the Duff shocks. I set of Rancho 9000 with the adjustable settings would be even better.

Just a quick note...
I have updated my website with some new pics of the explorer with the modified lift, etc. There are new pics on just about every page, so you will probably be able to dig around and look at some new pics. Follow the link below my name in my signature.
Hope this helps, take care and happy exploring!

Jason, sorry for stepping on your post.

Trace, correct. I have them both on the bracket. I will take the stabilizer off and try the ride. I like the dual shock set up and will try what I can to keep it.Thanks for the help.
