Hi, I am not sure if this was asked before since I can't really find anything on this subject but anyways, I ordered the James Duff 2.5 stage one lift yesterday and later on I want to go with the dual shock setup up front. Would this be a descent setup for going fast in the desert or in sand because I live next to a river bed and I like to go to Box Canyon alot. If it is possible what else would I need to achieve this? Thanks

My friend had the towers. It rode like a chuck wagon and the first time he caught a little air, the passenger side broke. I would check more into camburg or fabtech for high speed junk.

Than what is the purpose of dual shocks and extended radius arms?

i am thinking the shocks may have been set way to stiff for a dual shock application for them to break the towers

They were the Duff shocks that came with the towers. Personally, I think dual shocks is an old idea. The reason why you have 2 is so that there is less of a load on a single shock. You should get more consistant dampening from two, than from 1. The reason why my friend got them is that he wanted to remove the front sway bar and he wanted them to slow body roll- they did do that! I just think they are the only thing duff designed poorly, all their other lift stuff is about the strogest out there. Nothing else of mine has broke. By todays standars with adjustable shocks and remote reserviors, the dual shocks really aren't neccessary.

Why the arms? The R/A bushings only have a limited range of flex. When you lengthen the arms, a lot of flex on the tire and axle side = alot less movment from the bushing. I have the arms and I am VERY satisfied with them. They are strong, and my truck had a big noticeable amount of flex gained from them.

extended radius arms change the entire geometry of the TTB front end as it cylces.

I would not use James Duff lift components for driving fast though the wash...
You should look into an extended TTB beam setup, from a place like the Baja Shop, Camburg, or Autofab if you want to go fast...

Thanks guys, now I get it. But didn't Duff just come out with a new dual shock tower? Instead of the hoop?

yes they did, the old hoop was a PITA to install.
The new coil bucket has provisions for dual shocks.

Duff re designed their entire TTB lift, heim radius arms also

its all on their site

I guess I have the new redesigned kit since I ordered it a week ago.

There is more then 1 kit.
Stage I, stage II, and Stage III.
Stage III will have new rear leafs, extended radius arms & trans crossmember, coil buckets, shocks and coils with TTB drop brackets.
If you get the stage III kit you may still need a drop pitman arm and extended brake lines....

I just ordered the stage one 2.5 lift.
