I bought a JBL 10" sub and box (actually it was given to me). And now, of course I want to hook it up. I have a few questions.

I know I need an amp, but what type? 2 channel, 4 channel? My understanding was that all I have to do is have the headunit power up the amp, and connect the amp to the bass. And then run wires from somewhere on the back of the headunit to the amp, so it pumps out bass.

Am I missing anything, I'm sure I am.

what model is the JBL sub?

you dont want a 4 channel amp for it. just get a good 2 channel amp, and bridge it to 4 ohms mono.
you must run a positive power wire from the battery. a short ground wire. a remote turn on lead. and rca cables for the signal (if you still have the stock headunit, you need an amp with high level inputs. then just use the rear channels to provide the amp with the signal. but rca's sound much better aayway)
