Well, I hooked up the amp and it seemed to function right, except when the bass hit, the green power light would turn off, then come right back on. I didn't think much of it, thought it was sucking a ton of power because my dome lights were dimming bad too. Hooked up the sub and there was like no sound, just really distorted zzzzz sound. I put my hand on the sub and it was really warm, so I immediately unplugged it. I thought I had the DVC wired wrong, so I took it out to check that, but it was wired right. There was kind of a burnt smell, so I'm really scared right now. When I hook it up to home stereo to test it, it plays fine except when you turn it up past halfway, then it distorts really bad. Did I blow the Voice coils or was it just a bad ground. Please help. Thanks.

If you smelled smoke it could be one of the VC's. If you push lightly on the cone...in and out does it sound scratchy?

Oh..and another thing...do you have the gains on that amp cranked? You may want to turn them down!

Turn the music up as loud as you'll EVER listen to it...Start with the gain ALL THE WAY DOWN...then slowly and steadily turn it up until you hear bass...keep increasing the gain knob until you hear AUDIBLE clipping...at that moment...turn the gain BACK slightly...

You'll be good to go...:bounce:

That's why I'm confused because it doesn't make a scratching noise. The X is in the bodyshop right now because some dick tried to break in. I think it was a bad ground. I grounded it to one of those bolts underneath the flap, but it's a bolt that rests on the black thing and not the body of the car.

Probably just a loose ground then. I'd make sure and sand the hell out of the ground area so you're down to BARE metal though...

Peace,

Figured it out. I was connecting the DVC sub in parallel and I was going by colors. Red to red, black to black, when the colors are switched on one side. Plugged it in and man does it hit!

Good job! Now remember...be very careful with the gains...or you'll be posting about a blowin' sub that "used to hit"...LOL!
