I'm going to do an amp and sub in my 1997 Explorer with the JBL amplified sub and speakers ... just for the meantime until i get an HU around xmas... What is the simplest way to add an amp and sub to a JBL premium system and bypass the 'factory premium' subwoofer? I want to hopefully not splice the rear speakers but would like to use the subwoofer signal.. although full range would be fine.. Any help is appreciated very much, i get to install in a couple of days!...

thanks

If your new amp has line level in you can try to use the signal going into the factory sub amp. I have no idea if that signal has been ran thru a low pass filter.
Most decent amps have a LP-HP filter switch on them. The output to the sub itself would of coarse be filterd. If your amp dont have a line level input then ou will have to get a line level to low level adaptor.

Factory sub amp wire colors.
In to sub amp.
Brown\orange -
Red\Black +
12 V trigger wire: Dark Green\pink

Output from factory amp to factory sub:
Black\white -
Black\light green +

Hope this helps somewhat

can i use this as the aftermarket amp's remote or send it to a relay to send remote power to fans?

I would say yes.. But i dont know how much current that system will handle . If its just the amp i wouldnt think it would be a problem. Adding a relay to run fans may be pushing it. A normal aftermarket HU dont have a problem running trigger on multiple amps, but its designed to do that. It may be perfectly fine but wanted to at least bring up that point.

thank you for your input.. i think i am going to give it a shot... the fans are rated at 0.11A each... i hope one fifth of an ampere would suffice.. plus, the Bosch relay handles up to 30A... does that matter?

My JBL sub blew out about a month ago and i took it to the guys at a local custom audio shop. What they did was fit a speaker from an 8" bazooka tube assembly in the stock ford casing and hook it up to the standard JBL sub amplifier. WOW! The sound is about three times what it was when the car was brand new. It was a great upgrade and cost me about 100 bucks. I would recommend it wholeheartedly.

Best of luck,

eh not enough bass.. i'm used to two 12's.. besides.. i have a 15" sub, 3.5 cube box, and 500 watt amp waiting here to be installed...

suit yourself dude, but ive got a sweet system thats totally stealth and won't get jacked by some random street punk. Ill stick with my stealth install.

and i have a system capable of 145dB.. that will take your breath away, quite literally... also the ability to drive a female passenger close to ecstacy is of importance... j/k :D

what can i say, i'm an SPL freek...

as for getting jacked, with the cargo cover pulled out nothing can be seen from the outside of the vehicle.. and the 500,000V stun gun under the seat should protect me from 'carjackers' while I'm in the vehicle. One blast in the face with this thing is said to knock a person 12 feet back and on their ass.

heh, I am looking into getting a stungun. what kind do you recommend? Remember I am interested in one of these for preserving and not spending money so thrift matters! Ive seen one that looks like a cellphone but dont know if 80000 volts will do the charm. I want one that knocks the mfcka out cold for twenty minutes!

Oh btw I have a reference quality home system thats quite capable of eargasms :D :D

and reference to your standards means what? reason I ask is I am a Home A\V specialist at a local high end retail store, singly owned... look us up www.Bjorns.com and i have quite a system myself...

B&K 307
Pio Dv-47A
M&K Speakers
M&K MX-350THX Sub

SharpVision 61" HD 16:9

as far as the stunner, you want at least 300kV.. any less could leave the guy still standing...

Revel Ultima
Levinson #383 integrated
Rega Jupiter 2000 deck
Rega 25 turntable

add it up

No the amperage handling of the relay dont matter in this case. I was just concerned with the load being placed on the trigger wire. Like i said the factory HU may be fine with that load.
