Hello all,
A weird problem started with my X today. 99 EB SOHC, 181400 miles.
When I was driving home from class, going around 35 MPH, my truck started to do a weird jerk/lunge. It almost seemed like someone was pushing the clutch half in then letting it back out. I think it is a transmission problem, but I am hoping not. I am not sure how else to really describe the issue, i can hear clunks and the truck just lunges forward. No check engine lights/ OD lights came on and RPMS didnt seem to be affected at all either. After driving for a little the issue started to happen very frequently around 40-50 MPH, not so much around 35 anymore. I made my 45 mile commute to work and it never did it at highway speeds. Also, it may be worth me noting that today was the first snow in our area so far. Although what I was driving in was just a dusting, it covered the roads a little and was slippery, but I dont think it has anything to do with my problems, my 4 wheel drive didnt seem to be kicking in or anything and I wasn't sliding. My problem did not happen when I got more south towards DC and there was no snow also.
I have already had my trans rebuilt (although it has always had issues since, it kept throwing out codes, last one was a gear 2 incorrect ratio. The shop cleared that code and wanted to see if it would come on again..this was back in the summer. Since that happened my warranty on the rebuild has expired so I havent gone back to the shop to have the new codes read.) I have also had the T case rebuilt due to the shift fork issue found on this site. I know my U-Joints are shot, but those are going to be replaced next week. Im hoping maybe those could be the issue and not my tranny. If anyone has any other ideas what it could be and some other troubleshooting please let me know.
I am going to be taking this X on a 1400 mile road trip in January, going from Maryland to North Dakota for school and would really not want to have it die on the trip.
Thanks for any input.
Kevin
