my friend is looking to get himself 1 of these for his truck (f150) so I said I would ask a few questions for him:

basically he wants to leave the factory in dash in and run a wire from the inline speaker outs to the amp (kenwood 800) and use that to power the sub and the door speakers. He is on an even lower budget than I am it seems. So here we go:

1) Is it possible to wire it from the in dash like that, he thinks it will work but i am skeptical

2) As far as jl dvc subs go, is the 2, 4, 6 ohm refer to the configuration of the wiring, or a different model of sub? he wants the 2 ohm variety for some reason, not as much power needed i think. any advice for him with regard to this?

3) Does anyone have any experience on building a box for an f150 to go under the back seat? I think I can help him do it, but the box would be kinda big, should he just make it a ported box then? And if he only has one sub, will the sound be kinda distorted then since it will have to be on one side of the cab or the other (not enough room in the middle because of tranny hump)

thanks guys

A ported box would need more room than probably what he's willing to give up.. Stay sealed, it's easier to build, and you won't have to worry about tuning. Bass isn't as directional as what comes out of your door speakers, so it being on one side or the other won't really affect much.

Ohms deal with the wiring of the sub.. If it has dual 2ohm coils, you can wire at either 1 or 4ohms. Dual 4ohm can wire to either 2ohms or 4ohms. This affects the load on the amp. I can help you better if you have AIM (get me at metalhedIII )

As far as keeping the stock radio, you'll need a Line Output Converter. You plug in the speaker leads, and there's an RCA cable that comes out of the other side, so you can hook it up to the amp.

This is a very basic rundown, but it doesn't get much more difficult than that. Just fiddle around this forum some, and do some searches, and you should find more than enough information to make the install go smoothly.

Goodluck.

ok, what he wants to do is splice his speaker outs that are going to the door speakers and plug that wire into the "speaker level input" slot on his amp

is this even possible, he doesn't seem to care about sound quality, he just wants to know if it will work
