I have a 2000 xls with 132,000 miles, the transmission was rebuilt about 12k ago. A recent problem I'm having is it's jumping in and out of 4 wheel drive. On the straights it doesn't seem to be in 4x4 but when you turn you can definitely feel it jumping in and out. I'm thinking about disconnecting the front drive shaft for a band aid fix. Any ideas??
Thanks!!

Probably your 4auto is kicking in. If you want to have a true 2WD, search for the brown wire mod. It'll give you the ability to have 2HI & 2LOW

Maybe the tires are not the same diameter.

Nope tires all the same diameter. Their actually pretty new with less than 5k on them. Just run of the mill Goodyear suv tires. got a very thick off road tread though for cheap tires.

Disconnect the transfer case's connectors -- this will tell you whether the problem is mechanical or electrical. If the symptoms go away, the problem is electrical. If they dont, the problem is mechanical.

Were the tires rotated? Tires in general should be rotated at 5k miles interval.

Ditto. That's the quick dirty method of determining if it's a mechanical issue with the case itself, or an electrical gremlin in the control system. Start there and let us know what you find.
