My 2001 Ranger with 4.0 liter engine and automatic transmission will not electrically shift into 4-wheel drive. I have checked two fuses, tried a new shift motor and cleaned the connection under the driver's seat. None of the four wires in the dash behind the shifting switch have power. Could it be an electronic shift control module and how could I check it?
Thank-you,
Bill :feedback:

try replace the fuses.. The fuse maybe just dirty and you would think it is still good.

when you start the car, do the 4wd high and 4wd low lights come on in the dash???

if they dont light up, its the same problem i had in my 02 4.0 auto.

there is a control module located behind the passenger side kick panel. thats whats went bad. they are a ford only item and are about 250-300 bucks.

i bought a used one from a scrap yard for $80.... 4wd works like a charm

My 4x4 high and low lights flash about 6 times every couple of minutes and the 4x4 quit working. Do you think that could be the problem with my application as well?

I rest my case...

The fuse in the engine compartment....
