a 2.3 turbo as in like turboed engine out of a ranger ?
then in to a sport?

oh boy.... i hope your adventurous and have a lot of time, can it be done ? yes but i can imagine youd have to convert transmission as well as other gears.. i seen it done to other rangers but never a sport

Well my plan was, take my 86 turbo coupe and just swap the whole drive train, prob have to get a custom driveshaft and do some new wiring, but id like to have the first sport with a 2.3 turbo. Just want to see what other people think!

i can imagine just an extreme amount of fabrication of your own things as bolts and etc prolly wont line up..

i assume you're using the coupes set up then, your getting your engine and tranny from your thunderbird?

if so then thats some main things out of the way but yes tons of custom work,

in no way am i discouraging you, ive seen great things come from these motors, just know what you're getting yourself in to :)

love to see whats gonna happen

Yea my plan is to yank the motor, trans, and rear end and swap it over, i know there will be some faburacation involoved..
Build the motor up, cams, port and polish, etx..
I think after i can get the electronics figured out and the alignment issuse i think it will be a pretty sweet build!!

Thank you for your support, i know the machine shop will have the block for a few weeks while the clean and bore and powdercoat, plus i need another car to drive which isnt a big deal! This will deff. be a timly build!!

Welcome to the site man!

Your idea in my book is definatly cool! I like anything that is different and this is deffinatly different lol. I would reccomend keeping the Explorers axel and use everything elst from the doner car. I had a 2.3 in an old Ranger and I beat the snot out of that thing - it took every bit of it. Now I'm putting a 4.0 ohv into my 84 Ranger.

You should start a thread on this outside of the new member thread. Looking forward to some pics!

Thank you everyone!!
See ive seen the turbo 2.3 in the ranger and i know there is a little difference on the playform between the ranger and explorer, but not that much.. They both have the 4.0..

Once i get everything together i will start a new thread, it will be timely thats for sure!

And i want to thank everyone who helped me with the ideas of slamming my X, it is by far the lowest X ive ever seen!!

Jstcruz: you plan on building that 4.0 up?

I want to put a mild cam in it, port and polish everything, 95tm heads, lifters, headers, tb, cai and a open exhaust. I am not going to push it so far as to not be able to be driven daily. I just want a fun toy that is different than everything else :D . I have everything - computers and all that - from a 95 Explorer that is going in the Ranger.

Ive read a form on here about a guy who built his OHV and put it in a lifted 4x4 explorer automatic. Its clean and he seems to be pretty happy with the power! I can inly imagine a nicely built OHV in a 2wd maunal, should be a lot of fun!! Hope to see some build pics from yourself!
Im adam by the way, im still new to this site and dont know if it shows it anywhere!

I like the power of this engine. Should be pretty cool in a truck that weighs 1,000+ lbs less with 100 or so more horsepower lol.

I have talked to several ppl about building it up. There is a ton of good info on the site. I will definatly have pics up of that when I get started.

Heck yea! I think when i get the 4.slow out of my X when i seap the motor i will probably build it up also. Maybe slap it in my turbo coupe if it will fit!!! Haha i have a creative brain!! But thats awesome man if you ever have any questions ill do my best best to answer them or find out, ive been a tech goin on 7 years so i try to be as helpful as i can be, and look foward to your build!!
