I've got a 2001 Ford Explo Sport...

And every time I go over the lightest bump in the road, my truck starts squeaking, and when I turn my wheel left or right, I get a squeal from the steering column.... (more high pitched than a power steering fluid issue or at least those that I've dealt with)

I was thinking it was the sway bar blushings that need to be greased...
and greasing of the steering column in general....

Also, I've noticed going over those same bumps, my back hatch knocks a lot. I've opened it up, it seems like it fits fine, when I close it, I can't physically move it and recreate the noise by pushing on it...

Does it have something to do with the rubber seal around the outside of the hatch missing? Its on the main body of the truck just not on the door itself.

Any tips?

I would spray some lube on the bushings and take it for a ride. Shocks will make some noise when they wear out also. I dont know of anything in the steering that would sqeal like that except for the pump or belt. There is a slip yoke on the steering shaft under the hood but other then that nothing that can be greased. As for the hatch, I would deffinetly say that the missing weather stripping is the problem. It is a seal between the two surfaces and without it there is a gap. That is probably where the noise is coming from.
