If you want to get right to my questions fast froward to the type in red

Ok I changed my rear brakes because they were shot and ruined pass/side rotor. So I go to Autozone get new pads and cheapy $39.99 rotors. Had fun taking the rotors off :fire: (thank you ford) Liquid wrench some pounding some more pounding and coming to this site to make sure I wasn't going crazy then low and behold some prying they finally let loose.

So I get it all back together readjust the star screw for the e-brake to fully tightened so I could back it off till the wheel moves freely. But even with the the star screw tightened all the way it won't hold on a hill. It will hold the X on flat gound or a very slight incline but not on a hill which means I can't park in my driveway.

Now I noticed the new rotors went on real easy but seemed fine. Now is there any adjustment in the cable itself?

I had no problems with the e-brake before. I only see in the haynes manual that there is some sort of front adjuster is that a way for me to adjust the e-brake?

Thanks
Bob-bo

Are you sure the ebrake pads didnt break off when you pounded the rotor off? That's what happened to mine. I pryed and pounded my rotors off and since my ebrake pads were dried and cracked, they basically fell off the shoes. Since that happened the new rotors went on easy and I now have no ebrake. It's quite a job to replace the ebrake shoes. My manual shows the axle shafts taken out to get to them.

I'm pretty sure the e-brake pads are ok, I didn't look real good at them because I was just glad to finally get the rotors off, and I just slapped everything back together. But they are not broken beacause I looked at them good enough to would have noticed that. It looked like they had about 3/16" left on the pads from what I remember. Doesn't really seem like they would wear down, maybe get old and crack apart or bust like you said.

I'm wondering if its the rotors being machined to big because they were the cheap ones. I have to wait till I have time to take it all apart again to see if maybe I missed something or maybe a spring or something is getting hung up. I can push the pedal and I can feel it starting to grab but then thats as far as the pedal will travel.

But can I adjust the e-brake cable its self anyone?

I'm sure there's a way to adjust the cable. Look under the truck where it travels down the frame rail and see if there's a turnbuckel or something.

Mine won't hold when I park on a hill either unless I back it up about five feet. I finely gave up adjusting the star and called it good. You can replace the shoes without removing the axle, but you better have some small hands and a lot of patients. By the way, it doesn't take much pressure to break the lining off the shoe due to Fords cheap design.
