Just got my truck back from switching the gears out. Before I had a 3.27 open, now I have a 4.10 LS. It rides sweet, and I got a great deal!

4.10 gears - 80.00
LS unit - 100.00
Motive bearing and rebuild kit - 30.00
2 quarts Royal Purple Max Gear - 16.00
Installation - 275.00

Total investment - 501.00

I did this swap to raise my mileage a bit. I will post numbers when I have had a few weeks of road time.

Last month I replaced the IAC and installed a 70mm Mustang TB; my mileage went from 13.8 to 15.7 with no change in driving style. My goal is 20 (aldive I don't know how you do it!)

Break it in right, don't think it will increase your mileage

Good job and you really got a deal on the parts. I would think the 3.27 gearing would give you better gas mileage..

What kind of LSD was it? Ford factory, Ford Racing, Aftermarket?

It is a Ford Racing LSD and gear set. Pulled from a Mustang; they weren't new but had only 5k on them. So far I've had no change in mileage, you guys were right about that, but I haven't been light on the pedal either.

As far as breaking in, I'm moving from San Juan to Chattanooga, TN next week; my X is already on a boat. I will be changing the diffy oil afetr the drive from Jacksonville to Chattanooga.

Shoot, I went from just 3.73 to 4.10 and it made a huge difference in driveability. The truck feels a ton more powerfull and will easily break the tires loose in 2nd. I can confirm though that it didn't help gas mileage....probably even hurt it a bit

It all depends on if you drive mostly on highway or city.

I was just about to say that. You beat me to it! But, yeah, if you do mostly city driving and use a very light foot then the lower gears (higher numerically), will usually give you better gas mileage. If you do more highway driving, then the higher gearing will yield better gas mileage.
