I just got my HIDs in the mail today. They are "plug-n-play" for 9007 bulb housings.

I was testing them out in my house tonight. With the bulb sitting out in the open, and a car battery hooked up to the ballast, these Philips HIDs light up better the room better than a couple high wattage hallogen floor lamps. I can't wait to see how bright they are when I plug them into the head light housings.

I'll let you guys know how easy (or dificult) the install is. I hope the bulb "plugs" in to the 9007 housing without an problems.

Quadcam, that's great! Please post pics if you can! Also could you share where you acquired the HID's and their cost? I have been thinking of upgrading to HID's but I'm trying to gather info and testimonials first. This website is an amazing resource!

Ya QuadCam let us know. Ive been thinking about those things for about a year now. Gonna have to scratch that itch sometime.

that is SWEET man. I've been considering some HIDs for the belair if I ever get to that point, how much did those run ya? I beleive I'd need an H4 conversion for the belair, since the halogen conversion housing is designed for that.

Hey quadcam whats going on with the lights?

I had a couple problems..........

When I went to install the lights on the explorer, I hooked them up as I was instructed by the retailer.

As soon as I finished wiring up the lights, I tested them out......
they turned on, then blew the fuses. I called the company, and they explained that I needed to change out the factory 10 amp fuses for 25 amp fuses.

After changing the fuses, I couldn't get both lights to turn on. The driver side light would usually turn on, but the passenger light would flicker. After turning the lights on and off about half a million times, the passenger side light completely stopped working.

I took out the bulb and ballast and I bench tested it.
Diagnosis------- dead ballast

currently, I am waiting for a new ballast.....covered under warranty!!!

In the mean time, I decided to rewire the HID system. Now I am using the the factory FORD wires to trigger a relay that sends power to the HIDs via 10 Gauge positive wire. I also rewired the ground wire to the chassis using a 12 gauge wire.

I know that these gauge wires may seem excessive, but the driver's side HID lights up instantly, now. Before, the driver's side HID would not light up unless the car was on and running.

Basically, the stock FORD light wires are too small too be able to pull the necessary current quickly enough to ignite the HIDs.

As for results, The one HID headlight gives me more light and output than when I had LUKS 85 watt headlight bulbs in each headlight and my PIAA 1500 driving lights. Even more impressive is that I can't even tell a difference when I turn on my PIAA 1500s.

I can't wait until the other ballast gets here. It should be pretty damn impressive!!!!

ooOOOOH you should stop right there man.. I'm getting ideas again.. and when I get ideas.. my checkbook suffers :P

sounds sweet tho man... I have piaa superwhites in my headlights and the factory fogs along with 001 solitare driving lights, HIDs from other cars are so much brighter than this.. I want them so bad..this is a 9007 conversion kit right? how much did it run ya?

I bought them on an Ebay auction for $510

They are a 9007 style HID. Essentially, it is a Phillips D2S bulb with a 9007 ring exopied to the bulb.

The only thing I didn't like about it was that there was nothing to securelymount the buld into the headlight housing. So what I did was to put a thin bead of clear silicone along the edge of the 9007 trim ring. I placed the bulbs into the headlight housings; I let the silicone dry for about 2 hours. While the silicone was drying, I did all of the wiring and mounting of the ballasts.

I know that $500 bucks isn't chump change, but they are very much worth it - for the safety factor alone.
