I think what this means is that any factory system (hose) that brings air to the box will not have an attachment site. I don't know much about the early models, but the stock air path for my truck went through the side quarter-panel. This route still brings air with the Filtercharger, but now the filter gets air from "everywhere" in the engine bay: it's totally open. Tomorrow I'm gonna work on using some inexpensive wide hose to make some sort of ram-air. I'll put the inlet in the bumper or front spoiler openings and let the outlet sit near the filter element.
