Hi,

I've seen several posts referencing K&N filters and modifying the airbox to improve performance. I would appreciate it if someone would provide specifics of the types of modifications made to the airbox and what performance gains are realized.

Thanks,

Bill

Hi Bill,

Try a search on the site as there have been many ways described. Basically you want to just cut a bunch of holes in it below the filter. I was a bit fanatical and used a 2" hole saw with equal spacing between holes for a nice clean look.

As far a performance gain I would say there is a noticable little bit. Passing has a bit more umph. It is well worth doing. I kept the stock paper filter for now. The k&n replacement is about 45.00 and the KKM setup is about 90 ish. The guys with the KKM claim much better results than just the drop in. See Rick's review off of the main page. I cant justify spending the $45 now when I know I am going to add the KKM later.

Best regards.

Bill-I think you'll notice better throttle response along with better pick up using a K&N drop in filter. I did it to my '91 since I already had a K&N drop in and its the cheapest modification that comes with results that you can do. Check out the Sale site on this website. I got a second one from another member for $25. I thought I might have seen someone selling one for $15 just recently. Check out this Dead Link Removed there is a K&N drop in for $15.
