i am very sure i have seen this before, but i am going to post this, because maybe this may keep a lot of people banging there heads against the wall! last summer my check engine light would come on. not all the time, but every once and awhile. lucky for me, my buddy has a snap on scan tool. every time i would go there to scan it, the light would turn off (?) so i couldn't read any codes. finally it came on, and i was able to scan it. i can remeber what code it spit out at us, but we went over it a billion times and couldn't find anything. fast forwards about 6 months (now) i wanted to clean the filter because i just finished the body work and figured that there was a bunch of crap in it (and there was). so last weekend, i pulled it out cleaned it, and re-oiled it. then something clicked in my mind. i wondered if the oil off the filter was playing around with the mass air meter. low and behold, one week later "ding", check engine light came on. now thinking back to when this was happening before, it was also around the time when i re-oiled my check engine light. so for all of you that have k&n's, if you clean and oil the filter, and that light comes on, chances are, you will need to clean the mass air meter, and not pull your hair out trying to figure out what the hell is wrong with your truck!!!

Thats good to know! Thanks for posting!!

Have you checked for DTC's yet? If so, what codes are there? Try cleaning the MAF sensor. Could also be a O2 sensor. Could be lots of this. You can get it scanned for free at Autozone...
