K/N filter Gen1/Gen2 97X HELP!!

Does anyone have a GenII K&N filter kit on their 97 X with a conical air filter? I have a conical filter and according to K&N it won't fit, it is only for the flat panel filter. BUT according to Truck Performance it will fit.
I would slightly agree with TP as you are replacing the air filter assy/air box.

IMHO all you need is the K & N cone filter. Remove the end of air box, it just pulls up after removing a pop-in plastic stud. Now use a pair of pliars to crimp down the ring around the portion of air box that is connected to the air tube so that it will hold the cone filter in place.
You now have a FIPK. I bent a piece of steel rod so that it rests in the holes the air box was pulled out of to rest the filter assy. on so it doesnt flop around.
