HI,

After reading many posts on this site, I went with the K&N FIPK simply because KMM was closed last week. Install was simple. It only took about 45 minutes because I knew excatly what I would need tool wise(Ex: Torx 20). Thanks to everyone for the great info on this site!

I had noticable gains in pickup as well as throttle responce. The engine is slightly louder, but not overwhelming. The only problem that I encountered is the check engine light is now on. Is this normal?

I have a superchip comming tomorrow and I will let you know how my performance changes.

L8,

Matt

Did you reset your computer? It could be that, or maybe your MAS got something done to it accidentally. I wouldn't put your superchip in until the CEL is sorted out though.

Re-installed MAF Sensor connection?

I have the KKM True Rev and have never had the check engine light come on except once. That one time was the result of not connecting the MAF Sensor connection back up after cleaning my air filter. After the check engine light came on I realized my mistake and hooked the sensor back up, but the light stayed on until it was cleared with the reader/diagnostics unit at the dealership.

The other thing to do is to disconnect the battery when you hook up the FIPK for the first time. This is because the ECU has to relearn the new fuel/air mixture volume/ratio. Since you are putting in a chip you will have to disconnect the battery anyway. When you do, leave it disconnected for a half hour or so and be sure to turn on your lights to completely drain electrical energy from the system. Then, when you hook everything back up and drive be sure to give it some full metal, stop/go and some cruising to mimic your dialy driving patterns. I heard it takes about a half hour or so for the engine computer to learn it's new settings.

One last thing. If you are still under warranty, don't take the chipped vehicle to the dealer, he will know. Take it to the dealer to clear the check engine light and give you the report first before you put the chip in. HTH

I disconnected the battery, and didn't do anything to the MAS, that I know of. Any suggestions? I take it this isn't normal.

As always, any help you can provide will be greatly apperciated.

If you can, check the code to see what its saying. When i had pulled the codes on my 94 to diagnose another problem, it told me that the air intake temperature sensor was out of range. After i reset it, it hasnt come up again and i'm going to assume the cold weather was the cause. other than that, i havent had any other computer problems with my open airbox.

good luck to ya :)

Thanks Mike, That would make sense. I live in Colorado and it snowed last night and was 10 degrees. How do I pull from codes from the CPU?

Thank you,

Matt

i wish i could tell you how to do a OBD II port! hehe i only know about OBD I which is 91-94explorers

Any good garage can read the codes for you much cheaper than the dealer will. That is where you should start.

OBD-II at no cost

Several parts stores around here (CT) will lend you the code reader as long as you put a deposit on it...which is equal to the purchase price. When you bring it back they refund you the whole thing. ($400 for the OBD-II)
Might be worth a try.

Thanks for the help guys! I disconnected the battery again and this time, in warmer weather, the check engine light didn't come on. I can't wait to throw the superchip in today.

Thank you again for all you help!

Matt
