I plan to change the Air Intake System on my 94 EB. I have heard and read about the good and bad points associated with each one of these from the dealers/suppliers, and now i'd like to hear from the people who actually OWN one of the two types.
Would you buy the same one again?
Why the Wide difference in price? K&N=$214 KKM=89.95 and they seem to look identical!

Any help would be greatly apprecieated!!!!!

Welcome to the site; here you can find out just about anything that matters about the Explorer and some things that don't!

I would do a search of the forums here, because there are tons of posts and threads about KKM vs. K&N.

sooo??

Did you find anything out to base a decision on? k&n vs. KKM. I currently have a k&n cone filter with no air box. I have been told that the expensive kit from K&N which includes the pipe, pretty much is the same to what I have, it just replaces the airbox. KKM filter seems to be a better design allowing airflow intake in all directions. I think I am going to purchase the KKM, but on a mustang intake tube and call it good. What did you find out?

i have the k&n filtercharger, i bought it before i found this website. i am very happy with it, u can find them cheaper than $214. would have bought the kkm version if i had heard about it before though, everything i read on this forum has been positive and the price is right. hope this helps.

I bought the K&N drop in and removed my airbox. I don't see any reason to pay $90 or $200 for a product that essentially does the same thing. If you can mount it nice and tight yourself, why pay more? (I understand the KKM filter is slightly different in design, but for the slight difference I am not willing to pay $200)

I ended up going with the KKM!! It showed up today and I'm ready to install it, 'cept it's 19 degrees outside!
I guess i'll wait a while. Sigh......
Hope you like yours when you get it.

KKM

Well..for the 91-94 youre kind of "stuck" with the KKM...there is a K&N "kit", but its still aftermarket with a K&N filter. I'm not real familiar with the kits for the 95+, but you can take a look at the product reviews on the site and see or yourself. K&Ns kits are notorious for being emissions legal, some of KKMs arent. It would probably depend on application, as KKM makes the kits that K&N doesnt.

I did get the KKM kit for my 93 sport...Its working wonders. Tons more airflow, gobs of power, better acceleration-including pedal-to-the-metal, and a 25-50 mile per tank increase in mileage so far. It works.

Also, KKM is a small operation catering to the smaller segment of the performance market..and its nice to support such a company that supports your vehicle. K&N makes millions..they have tons of applications. If you can get a KKM kit for your vehicle, I'd recommend it..and be sure to mention that youre from or saw it on the Explorer4x4.com website!
