You can only install a K&N filter in the stock airbox(they don't make a full intake for the 4.0 OHV). If you want to get rid of the airbox, you can get a KKM intake. Do a search and you can find out all of the information about intakes.

Welcome! Look at www.kustomz.com. A K&N in the stock airbox is pointless unless your only reason for doing it is to not have to replace the filter.

You can buy a MAF adapter and a K&N cone. I've got a 7" K&N cone on mine.

ya Im trying to see what type of air intakes (K&N style) that would fit in a 93 ex. I want to take out the stock one and I am searching my local auto shops for these products. Im trying to upgrade my explorer because its acting like an old lady. what would be the best way to upgrade the engine? I would like to take out that engine and put in a new more stronger type but I dont think I have that type of money. would a good ol fashion "tune-up" and a little self mod. do the trick. Im not a real car-mechanic type. but im willing to read and learn on how to do these thing rather than to take it to a mechanic. thanks for your replies~!

Well.. when was the last tuneup? I'd change the plugs (replace with Motorcraft Double Platinum), wires (replace with Motorcraft), Fuel filter, PCV valve, clean the MAF and IAC.
For intake I'd buy the KKM from Kustomz.com. That should be your first mod. Next you should get a catback exhaust. After that a 66mm BBK throttle body, then a Pro-M MAF, and last, an Apten or SCT custom chip. All this will give you a better throttle response, perhaps better mileage, and you'll accelerate quicker.
