They say about 50k. That's a bit much. I cleaned mine about 12k ago and it's really dirty. I really need to clean it again, but I'm too lazy. It depends on road conditions, weather, any offroading, etc. Just look at it. If it's all black instead of red, it's too dirty
The K&N actually filters better as it gets dirty. I've had mine in the Explorer for over 5,000 miles. My F-150 has had it in for 35000 miles and I plan to clean it at 50,000.
depends on what you use it for... I know one of my buddies at work bought a k&n for his truck... I helped him do the swap, his old paper filter had like 60,000 miles on it and looked like the day it was unwrapped. However I had a K&N that I took out to inspect at about 10,000 miles on my Explorer (before I got my KKM) and it was encrusted with filth... so its all in how you use it, and where you take it
