Katemcy is closed, they lost the land lease. The new Katemcy is supposed to open in February.

I took my Jeep there back in July for the last chance run and it was an awesome place to wheel, hopefully the new place will be just as good.

Is the Canadian River area just north of Amarillo still open? They used to have Sand Drags there the first part of every year. Last I knew they had added a bogg and dropped the sand drags.

I haven't been there in a bunch of years. I did compete in the drags for a few years but stopped going when they did away with them and had boggs only. I did some quick searchs and came up with a bit of info. Not sure I will go back but it was a great area and just trying to give folks more options.

If it's still open it's a great place to go and wheel. Folks should get there at least once. We stayed in Amarillo but camping was permited. Don't know if they still have the yearly event up there around feb. or not. I wheeled both sides of 87. But more to the east than to the west. The sand drags and bogg was to the west of 87 at the bottom of a hill called widow maker. There was plenty of ways around the side of widow maker. It has a great view from the top. I had read folks from the local 4x4 club that hosted the event did a run along the river west all the way to 385. Not sure if they still do that or not. There were stories of quick sand in the river and of vehicles getting caught in it.

Anyway just wanting to get the info out to folks. Hope it's still open and folks get a chance to wheel there and enjoy it as much as I did.
