I think you should keep it also. I tried to vote but couldn't. Your credit may not seem important to you now but down the road you may regret a decision like abandoning the vehicle. That said, I also agree you should look into options for refinancing. That's too bad about your eye, I hope recovery goes smoothly and quickly. How long do you expect to be on disability?

I voted that you keep it. The situation with diability and still having big payments is a problem. I think your big mistake was fixing it up so nicely before it was paid off. I waited till I had hte title in my hand before I got started. You will never get back what you put into it. Also, the finance company may not just take it like that. I'd find out about that. They are going to want to get their money out of it, and may not be able to.

I decided before I started that I'd be keeping my X until it was too far gone to ever fix. I'll probably go through several other cars before I'm tired of fixing it up.

But I don't know. It's tough choice. It's hard to say what's right for you. Personally I would keep it, but I'm in a very different situation.

Wouldnt let me vote either. it said some crap like

But anyway, i was trying to vote YES, definately keep the X. Any amount you could get paid for selling it wouldnt be worth all the money and time you spent on it yourself.

But thats just my opinion. You do what you think is best for yourself - dont worry about what we say, or how the amount of chicks you pick up will be effected. It doesnt really matter

I too can't vote, but man, If I were you, I'd definitely keep it. Its a nice truck, it has respect, you have respect (not that you'd lose it if you got rid of the X). I'd say that since you put all that time and money into it, and you must "love" the thing to do all that to it. you really should just keep it for a while, things will eventually turn for the better and if you get rid of it now, you may just be regretting it later on down the line. That's just my $.02

I say keep it! I would definitly check into refinance tho. You put sooo much time and love into the truck, you would miss it ( I know I would ).

I put alot of time and love into my 90 Stang only to have some fool pull out in front of me, and in a split second everything was gone =( I miss it everyday, and even tho I have put much love and time into my truck, I contemplate getting rid of it to get another Stang. Unfortunately I know I would miss it too much. (did that make sense? heh)

Sorry about your situation, but hopefully you will do whats right for you.

Keep it! Like everyone else has already said you have way to much time and money in your truck to ever get what you owe back out of it. Check with your finance company to see if you are eligible for hardship since you are on disability or try to refinance for a lower payment. Don't give it back to them. You will get screwed in a bad way. They will auction the truck off for whatever they can get and come ofter you for the difference. So definately keep it, your truck is way to nice for that. Just my $.02.

oh yeah and i just realized that its a picture of your truck that i have set as the backround for my comp. That one pic of your truck on the solid rock with "LIZARD" on yer plate. Its been there longer than any other picture of trucks from this site have. i just cant get enough of looking at it lol.

I duno if thats gonna make you feel better about it and keep lol;) but im just letting u know

but seriously dude your truck is so friggin sick. If i had $12k i would buy that thing without thinking twice

KEEP IT!!!

I love the "Skunk", but its all about what you want. Like others have said, you probably wont get the finance company to pay it off. They might come after you after they get 5k for it from some gay ass auction.

Also, I could not vote

one thing after another, I was puttin my spare in the back of the truck and dropped my sub when i moved it out of the way, it WAS a JL12W6 now its crap.... that really pissed me off, I pulled the truck out of the garage and laid the longest patch of rubber ever (well for my truck atleast).... 1.5 blocks long.... I must admit I had the intentions on blowing the T-case the rest of the way cause I was so pissed, but I couldnt..... instead I somehow fixed it.... now thats bass ackwards if ya ask me.... from what my neighbors told me, it was some sight to see my truck smoking tires that far....

oh yeah... dont know whats up with the voting.... but your comments are good enough for me.

Thanx again!

Dude, keep it! Your X was my final motivation to lift! i know my 98 isnt near the capabilities of yours- but every inch i go up im thinking of yours sort of as guidlines. One day when i get a new vehicle and this is just a trail rig i plan on having the SAS like yours.

I'll have to agree with him. It may sound weird, but I carried around the videos of your X on my Palm Pilot. I especially enjoyed showing people the one of you doing donuts in the snow.

I will admit that it was Skunk that inspired me to ultimately lift my X, it used to be street.

I know it may be rather tough right now, but htere is always a way out. Trust me, I know. Talk to the finance company, they may be able to help you out. It may take a bunch of faxing of documents, but it'll be worth it. Skunk is an awesome Explorer, don't get rid of it.

It's a keeper. If you've invested the money, why throw it away. Push comes to shove, buy a set of rims & tires for road use, and when you know you're going out on the trail, put your mudders on.

the things badass dude
thats what it comes down to.
but it's you call in the end 12 grand is a **** load to owe you don't pay insurace so it could sit all winter till you get better and get off disability and get going again man.
think of all the work it took to get it be what it is now.
it should be bought by the website. as history.

i would never give it away and still owe money on it..

no way

I'd keep it but thats me.
mines sorta the old skunk but alittle smaller.

check it out. http://pak01.pictures.aol.com/NASAp...mViewFromEmails

Well, lets see what happens this weekend, Im running the Skunk at paragon for the "Toys for Tots" benifit run, on Sat. If anyone is interested in wheelin for a good cause or just to see the Skunks last run (maybe not the last) thats where Ill be.

I don't think I can make it to Hong Kong

I will however give you a peice of advice. Anyone who told you that the finance company would just repo the truck and it would be gone is lying to you. I know underhanded car salesmen and finance guys that will tell customers **** like that.

First, they will come take the truck. They own it.

That does not mean that you're off the hook for the payments. Like others have said, with the mods you've done they could never get out from underneath it. If they decided to hold you liable, they can seize the truck, get what they can for it on the market or in scrap and hold you liable for either the entire debt, or what they still have outstanding after the sale.

If they do this, then one of two things can happen.

They can come after you for the money, have liens put against any property you have or garnish any wages until they get their cash.

OR

They can charge off the entire amount as bad debt and collect from their insurance to recoup their losses.

Either way is bad.

If they come after your assets or your wages, then not only will you be strapped for cash, you'll find yourself in a position where you would have to sell belongings and property to satisfy the liens. Any amount they garnish your wages will be more than $422 a month. They'll look at your absolute expenses (mortgage or rent, basic utilities) and they could possibly take damn near the rest to pay off the bad debt as quickly as possible. No court would have much pity on you either because you took a vehicle you did not own outright, modified it and destroyed it, then dumped it on the lienholder. They'll make an example of you)

If they charge off the debt, then the only thing worse that can happen to your credit is a bankruptcy. Forget about getting ANY credit (cards, car, home, medical or car insurance, cell phones, any utilities) for 5 years or more. They just wont do it.

Now, the question is which way would they go. They would probably go the path of least resistance. Since you dont seem to have any assets worth any value other than the truck, they've already taken that, they'll charge off the debt and collect from their insurers.

I would refinance it (if you can get the credit) and live with it...

**** like this can destroy your future. Even after the charge off is no longer active on your record, mortgage companies, car loan companies etc can pull a history and see it, like a bankruptcy. VERY few Americans have charge offs or bankruptcies and it makes you look like a terrible credit risk.

#1) It's your WIFE's credit you'll be destroying, since it's in her name, genius. And since she's the only thing you have to depend on while you're disabled, I suggest you don't piss her off.

#2) Stephen is right.... I was told way back when I missed my second payment ( and before I declared Bankruptcy) that I'd still be liable for the remainder of monies owed if they came and took my truck and sold it at auction.

#3) Skunk WILL NOT get more than 2-3K......you saw my auction when you came down here, Chris. They'd take her straight to Salvage and put her in there as a wreck and you know it. If anything a dealer would pay for the engine and miscellaneous parts.

#4) Think very carefully about what that truck means to you and everyone who's life it's ever been involved in. I lost Blackjack.....you just don't know how how much you love your truck til it's gone and you see someone else driving it.......

If you can't get someone at Paragon to buy it for most of what you owe, than I suggest you suck it up, get a job under the table and stop spending money on beer and strip clubs, cuz you're stuck with her!

Ouch!!! anyway he will be responsible for the remaining balance of the loan on the truck after they auction it. However they cannot make him pay it. It will go against his credit though.

Red, they can and WILL garnish his wages (in this case, his disability) to get their money back if they have to....I don't know how much different PA is then MD, but they're absolutely ruthless when it comes to getting their way!

Does he live in pa or md? Unfortunately from a bad marriage I had to turn a vehicle in. I dont know if that makes a diff. from them repossesing it. But they hassled me and i went to a lawyer. He advised me to send them a certified letter stating not to contact me in any way about the matter and if they did after that it was against the law and he would go after them. I did as he said and havent heard from them since. disability im not sure of.

They can go after his assets to get the money, if they file suit for it.

I doubt they'd do that honestly as he doesnt make a lot of money, and supposedly doesnt own anything like a home of real value. They'd be far more likely to charge off the debt as its the easiest way for them to recoup the loss.
