just wondering how you all keep your sub boxes from sliding all over

you could try ratchet straps.... or drill through the floor of your truck and run some bolts through the bottom of the box

I use these straps I picked up from REI. They look like life jacket straps. I just strapped one around the sub and one of those little metal loops on the carpet. It works sweet and it's easy to remove the sub when I have to.

I have mine bolted to the floor by using brackets that attach to the box in 4 locations with 2 bolts each, and then attach to the wheelwells with the same number of bolts....

Here's an "under construction" pic without the carpeted false floor that makes them easier to see:
Dead Link Removed

I have 2 'L' Brackets that are bolted to the floor, and then the base of my box extends 6" out on either side, and there is a slot cut in the middle of each extension, so that the L bracket pops thru. Then I have a padlock on each L bracket, so that keeps it in place and makes it rather hard to steal.

I just attached two strips of the hook side of velcro to the bottom of the box. Grips good on the carpet.

Good question!

I ditched my old, huge, take away all cargo space, sub box in favor of a tiny 1 cu foot Boston Acoustics competitor 12" so I could still get some bass and have my cargo space. The box was designed and built to be moved around, I can even set it inthe passenger seat, not that I would but I could. This allows me to fold my back seat down slide it forward, remoe it if I have to, etc.
I got some Explorer cargo tie downs at the junk yard, the BII didnt come with any :(, installed them and I use a single ratcheting tie down to hold it in place.

Works perfect!

You could build a 65 pound box and fill it with 3 20 pound subs like I did. It isn't going anywhere. :p

I have a neat solution, on my 2002 is has a cargo compartment just behind the second seats. (no third seats) I built a custom box that fits in the lip of the compartment. My amps are below, along with my cap. Kind of a stealth install, except for a big hump. :D But the sub box carpet matches the interior.

I also installed quick releases on my sub encloser so if I need space, I just take them out, and replace the factory cover.

L brackets work the best. I tried not having anything hold down my box but the 40Ib Stroker and over 200Ib box still moved around. Than i tried 2 L brackets on corners and all that did was tear chunks of wood out of my corners on box. Now im at 4 L brackets up front. No matter how much it weighs its still going to move around and i drive really easy.

If you want to bolt it down, do it right. Take the subs out or whatever to get access to the inside bottom of the box, drill some holes in your cargo area (careful not to drill through anything!!!) and bolt the box down, use some silicoln or rubber boots on the floor pan so it doesnt rust/rip.

I would prefer to strap it down to the cargo hooks though so you can still take it out without drilling holes. I have used L brackets before, work okay, but they are still weak compared to actually bolting the box in.

Just my 02

When I had a "cookie cutter" box that held my old Kickers, I never had a problem with it moving. Unless you guys drive like a bad outta hell, I don't see how your sub box would move that much.

Hartman, hahahaha if mine wasnt strapped down it slides all over the place! Mostly because it is tiny (reaons I went with a single 20hm Boston Competitor), weights nothing, and I have a Husky liner cargo mat, that mat makes anything slide around......

Here is a pic of of how I secure my box to the floor ( one on each side).

Im not saying its impossible but most likely it still will. Just watch it. It may help though if i put on some carpet primer may be why in my case:rolleyes: no point for me to waste money i sumthing im not going to be using much longer. Hey Tig what happens if you lose that key? Are you going to take some bow cutters to that lock? ;)

Well the reason I choose that lock was because it is protected against using bolt cutters. If I lost the keys (different keys for each lock) I would have to rip the box apart. I could probably use a hack saw, but I would be there for awhile.

To prevent all this I keep a spare set hidden in the house.

Couldnt you just bolt cutter's the hasp? I have a similar setup with padlocks, and im just worried that a thief might have bolt cutter with him, then he would have the box and my amps, and everything would be pointless...I dont know how many thiefs carry bolt cutters w/ em tho

The hasp is supposedly case hardened meaning it is extremely hard to cut with bolt cutters. Besides I think the general mentality with thieves is smash, grab, and run. If they have to spend more time working to get your stuff they may ignore it.

Absolutely nothing is going to stop a determined thief. The idea is to make them work harder to get your stuff, meaning they spend more time than they want at the scene of the crime. Which increase the possibility of them getting caught in the act. No thief likes that idea.

VairKing, the extensions of your box are more than just L-brackets through a slot in a piece of wood extending from your box, Right? If not, I would be worried about them just snapping those “extensions” off the box and getting away with your stuff?

I wish i had a digicam id take some pics for ya all. No, it would be hard for them to snap the extensions off, because I have screwed a 3" X 40" piece of 1/8" flat stock that runs the width of the box, to the bottom side. So even if they did get a prybar underneith it, it wouldnt snap...I only worry about bolt cutters, cause that would be an easy way to swipe it all. I may build a new enclosure much like the one I have now, except extend the box over the extension, and then cut a small hole big enough to get my hand in to unlock it, then they couldnt use a hack saw, and probably couldnt get bolt cutters in...but for now Im happy with this box. My truck is only in a high risk area (campus) for a couple hours a day, and its broad daylight, so im not too worried about it, and its at home all night, and sits right outside my bedroom window with motion lights on it, and if the lights go on, I wake up...
