Key "chip" keeps falling out!!

I've searched and haven't seen this problem before, so help? I have a 1999 Explorer Sport, 2 door. It came with 1 original key. I bought 2 replacement blanks, which SAID "Ford" on them, and had them programmed. Then I lost the original and began using one of the replacements. Then one night when the car wouldn't start, I noticed that there was a rectangular hole in the top of the key. The transponder had fallen out! I thought that was odd, but I had the other key with me so I started the car and went home. Then before I got another key made, the same thing happened to the other key! Luckily I just happened to see the transponder in the garage, but now it has fallen out again. I have to get to work in the morning and I can't drive my car. Being Easter Sunday, I can't even get a new key. Is this a common occurrence in these keys??

I have never heard of that happening. Can you just reinstall the transponder with a drop of glue on the cap?

put a drop or two of some super glue and that should hold it in place

Yeah, that would be great, except I have no idea where it is. That's the problem. It's so small and could have fallen out anywhere. I retraced my steps since the last time I drove the car, but no luck. Waiting for a locksmith now to come out and make me a new key, which will cost me $125.

Yeah those keys are expensive. I only have one key for my ex and LUCKILY I haven't lost it ( great I just jinked myself ) The price of a secondary is holding me back from getting one.

It is only expensive if you have zero or one key. Once you have two keys you can program your own. Some have been lucky enough to go through the programming steps with the same key in order to program a second key.

Well, my locksmith threw in a second key and even gave me a remote to replace the one I had lost. He thinks the EBAY merchant I bought the blanks from probably pulled the transponders out of old keys and put them in new blanks. He said the guy should have put a drop of superglue on the transponder to hold it in. I've tried contacting the guy I bought them from, but have gotten no response. I wrote again and said if he didn't resolve the problem, I was going to file a dispute. This guy has a 100% satisfaction rating on EBAY so hopefully he won't want the negative rating and will make it right.

Be careful with the ebay keys. The chips value would change when I would leave it in the truck all day if it was extremely hot out. Ford keys never had this problem.

Trying to avoid third-party parts, I googled OEM Ford PATS key and this came up first. Is $10 a good price for it? I have 2 keys, and I'd like to make maybe 2 more just to be safe.

Also, I can't remember what I read about it exactly, but if you have more than 2 programmed in, do you need to use all of them when programming a new one or just 2 of them?

Just need the two in order to program more and 10 bucks for an original Ford key looks like a good price. (I haven't shopped keys lately.)

If you have your owner's manual the directions may be in there how to program up more keys if not the link you posted said the info was on their forums.
