02 XLT 4x4. Wife starts truck, (stumble no start), second try, (truck starts), backs out of garage and stops, turns off truck, after about 5 min. trys to start truck (no go, just turns over), gets out of truck, pushes key fob to lock truck (no click, no horn on second try). 2 days later, ended up replacing the battery. Truck now starts and runs just fine, BUT no key fob. Does not lock or unlock doors or open tail gate or the rear window. Anyone have ideas as to check or fix so that the 2 key fobs work as befor. Thanks for your help. Pete:frustrate

Keyless entry codes probably got erased.

Put the key in the ignition and cycle from off to on without starting 8 times as fast as you can. At that point you should hear the locks cycle. You have about 25 seconds to program in your remotes at that point. Before the 25 seconds are up, make sure you press any button on each remote. You will know it accepted the remote when the lock cycles again.

Please let me know if this works for you.

Poli, no luck with the key fobs, doors click 2 times, but fobs don't work. Tryed it about 4 times using both keys, got another idea?

Nope.... Sounds like there was a short circuit when the issue first popped up. The fact that the locks are cycling when you enter programming mode means that it is ready to accept new fobs but cant get a signal. Your keyless entry receiver is likely hooped.

When you say hooped, you mean what and where is it located?

I would start by making sure that the batteries in the fobs are good. Then follow the procedure outlined in the manual exactly. There will be feedback so that you know the step has been accepted.

Here is the info from my owner's manual for programming the key fobs. If you don't have an owner's manual, Dead Link Removed.

Dead Link Removed

Good luck and keep us posted. :D

Batteries in fobs are good. Did as book said, got the door clicks, pushed the fob button, door clicks a second time, pushed the second fob, nothing, no end to the reset. Tryed to reset 1 fob, first round of door clicks, pushed 1 fob button,no door clicks. wtf, Tryed this on the other fob, crap, took truck to Ford, service manager did the same reset, crap, asked if I could leave it, not going to happen. Will try later down the road. For now, just suck it up and use the door key. thanks for the help. Pete

Do you have power memory seats? If so, do they work? Check your fuses and make sure they are all good, in particular fuse #20. Good luck!

Tom

New info on rerprograming the key fobs. Went out and removed the neg lead to batt, reconnected the batt, turned the key 8 times to start the program, doors click, push button on fob, doors click, turn key to position #2, doors click, remote is now working, YES. Try to program the second fob, will not work, now the first fob stopped working. Can program the second fob after disconnect and reconnect the batt. but the first fob will not program. One disconnect and reconnect for one key fob, not 2. now i have reason to scratch my ass and wonder wtf. Any ideas out there? Pete

Pete, you must program both remotes at the same time. When you get to the step where you press any button on the remote, press any button on the 2nd remote right after pressing any button on the 1st remote. They must both be programmed at the same time or only one of them will work!

I think I understand where it may have gone south for you. You should only cycle the keys once and then press any button on the 1st fob. You then grab the second fob and press any button. that should do it. If I read correctly, you cycled the key each time for each fob, that's why you can only get one to program. When you turn the key to off, you are effectively telling the system that you're done programing.

Rondo, you beat me to the punch.

Wish I had the power memory seats, wife is 4'10", i'm 5'11". remove batt, rehook batt, cycle from #2 to #3 8 times, door clicks, press button on remote, doors click, press button on second remote no go, turn to #2(acc), doors click. Can program remotes one at a time, BUT not together. Must remove and rehook batt to start the reprogram so that one or the other remote will program. Any Ideas? Pete

Are the batteries good in both remotes? Is it the same remote that won't program each time?

Rondo, all batteries are good, I cycle the keys once, then press any button on the first remote, door clicks, then i press any button on the second remote, doors do not click, return key to (acc), doors click. Only the first remote works. Can do the reprogram again, but use the second remote as the first one, then the other one will not work. Keep in mind that you need to remove the 12v battery lead and replace it to get the program to work or reset. My wife's keys or my keys, does not matter who's are first, the other remote will not work.

the 2nd fob is the batter is new, is bad.

:dunno:

:wtf:

wow, what i meant, if the 2nd fob has a new battery and the battery is good, the fob is no good,

the car should respond, to the 2nd fob as the first one, if it only responds to one of the 2 fobs, the one that it does not respond to is bad.

my first reply really made no sense.... sorry.
