I have the factory code for the keyless entry however it does not work. Bought the explorer used. How do I find out if the code has been changed and if it has how do I access the new code? I am unable to contact the previous owner as the vehicle was bought at auction. Thanks!

If you mean the Keypad entry, then the factory code should always work even if the previous owner set his own code. (At least that's the way it is in the '04.)

That is also what I've been told, the factory code will always work. I wanted to change mine b/c I bought my X from my parents and my whole family knows the code....

How can I get the factory code for my X that I just bought. The owner's manual says it's on a sticker somewhere or on a "wallet card" which is no where to be found. I know I can ask them at the dealer, but I was curious if someone here could point me in the right direction first.

The Factory code cannot be changed without replacing the module that stores it. The additional codes that have been programmed cannot be deleted without hooking it up to the computer at the dealership and manually erasing the additional codes.

Think we solved the problem. We spoke to an ex ford tech who advised us that it sounds like a wiring problem. We also discovered that therte is a technical bulletin on this problem. Thanks for the feedback!

This should help...

Similar Problem

I also bought a '02 XLT and did not have the code. I found the computer module with the sticker and obtained the code, which was a severe pain in the hiney but mine doesn't work either. My question is-on the keypad, if you just press the "1/2" the keypad does not illuminate, if I press all of the other buttons they each illumate the pad. I am assuming that the "1/2" button doesn't work. I can lock the unit with the 7/8 and 9/0 buttons. Can you lock it without the code? Does everyone else's 1/2 illuminate? Thanks so much..

The link that you posted helped out tremendously!!! I recently left my husband and needed to change the code so that he would not be able to get into my vehicle and I didn't want to have to pay the dealership that kind of money!!!

Please keep in mind that the original factory code has not been changed. If your ex had that code, he will still be able to gain access using it. The only way I'm aware of to change that code is to change that module. However, now that you know where it is, changing it should not take too much more effort. :)

Also, depending on your model year, some models have a limited number of alternate codes that can be programmed, and some model years do not allow you, the user, to delete the existing personal codes. It varies slightly from year to year. There should be more details on how your system is configured in your owner's manual.

I have an '03 that I also bought used without a "wallet card". Where is the module located with the code # so that I can use the factory code to unlock the door?

Thanks, It's a shame the dealers won't provide the code for free.

Thanks!

We just bought an 2002 XLT to replace my 94 Sport. I had twins this past May and we needed the 4 doors for their car seats. The XLT didn't come with an owner's manual or the codes. :(

I can't wait to try these instructions in the morning!!

AND

THANKS for posting them for no charge!!! I know there are sellers on Ebay selling these directions. Now I can get car mats and stuff for the girls.

Again, thank you!!

:)
Carol
