Look in the manual...it tells you how to reprogram the code to one that you choose, but you'll still have the factory code as well. Like I reprogrammed to my birthdate so it's easier to remember, but I never use the damn thing. Mine's a '97, if that makes any difference.

Looked and used a mirror. All i see is the side speaker, beyond that maybe a black box but no sticker on it. It is so far forward, almost to the driver door.
What a pain in the ***@@@!!!

Not THAT important. Guess I'll live without it!

Thanks for all the help!

I thought if you give Ford your V.I.N. number, they can give you the code for it.

ahhh... a 2001 sport might be a whole different ballgame. Call ford and ask them where to find it.

It sounds like the personal code is 13579 or 97531. All you have to do to erase it is follow the instructions in the owner's manual to erase the user-code. A lot of rental car companies use that trick on their fleet vehicles... the first thing they do after taking deliveries is program an alternate code (like 13579) so that if someone locks their keys in the car, it's easy to retrieve them.

As for the location of the factory code, I know on my 98, it's right up inside the jack compartment. It takes a flashlight and a mirrir to be able to see around the corner, but it's there.

As for finding out the code without the sticker, from what I understand, you must connect it to the computer at the dealer and scan the system. The Code is not vin-specific (i.e. the unit can be changed out).

Just my .02

If youre talking about my code, I know my code and it isn't even close to a 13579 or97531 or whatever. My code is well spread out.

it's possible that your master code is 3-1-3-5-7, or 5-7-9-9-7... running your finger back and forth over the key pad is like running your fingers over a keyboard... eventually, you might find a user whose password is 'qwerty'... it's not impossible.

If, in fact, it is 1-3-5-7-9 or something similar, it's entirely possible (as I stated before) that someone programmed in an alternate code at one time and it was never erased. In fact, I've programmed that exact code in mine when I go camping just to not need to carry the keys around for the weekend. Of course, I promptly erase it so I don't have to worry about it getting cracked by a 5-year old who likes to push the buttons!

Take the time to erase all the user codes first, then try it and see it 'zipping' the keys still works.

How do you erase user codes?

its in the manual.

BT4auBURN...can you elaborate on how a kid could break in your X with the keypad? My code seems to be unique enough that it would not be easy to "guess" and after a few failed guesses the keypad will not work at all.

:frustrate

Factory code CANNOT be erased and will always be there. To set the personal code, enter the factory code, press one immediately after and enter a five digit code. That five digit code is now your personal code and CAN be reproggrammed, yet the factory code WILL still work.

Hope this helps someone or else it was a waste of my time. hehe

BT4auBURN: no need to repost it. Robert quoted you so its already here. I tried that method on my keypad and it didnt work.

Had to try it... tired the ex, tried my f150, tried my mom's Expedition, and tried my dad's Lightning... didn't work on any of them.

I dunno.... fluke?

I have unlocked my cousin's 97 and a lady at work's 96.
They are all three XLT's. (if that matters)

how many times did you go up and down? I did it a few times really fast and got nothing.

The first time like 20 Later about 50 times. sounds like alot but it isn't when youre doing it quickly.
