2001 Explorer Sport
:banghead: I have a 2001 Explorer Sport 4x2 and the build date is 08/01. I have searched this forum for 3 days looking at where to find the code for the keyless entry. I have gone to my local ford dealership and they couldn't find the code on their computer. I checked the left rear - nothing but a jack there. I removed the panel on the right rear at the seat - not there. I removed the airbag - not there. I removed the panel beneath the steering column - not there. I looked behind the park brake and there is a set of numbers in plain view on a black module, but they don't work. I listened to the relay clicking while my wife pressed the keypad on the door. It sounds like it is coming from behind the radio. I will probably take that out today. Please-please if anyone can help me let me know. :banghead:

Thanks!

wish i could help... been having the same trouble with my '02 sport. i, also, thought i heard something coming from the dash area behind the radio when i tried to listen for the relay. i'm not ready to pull my dash apart though.

the code can be found on a black box that is in the jack compartment in the rear storage area, it will take a flashlight and possibly a mirror to read.

It isn't in the jack compartment. It is there on my 96 but they moved it around model year 2001. I have a lot model 2001 and it is probably going to be in the same place as the 2002. I will try and remove the radio today. If it is there I will let you all know!!

First off, are you certain your truck has keyless entry? If so, you said you took it to Ford and they could find it either? Ford should be able to find it, all they have to do is hook up your truck to their computer and it can find it for you. Try cycling the locks with the remote and listen for the relay clicking and try to pinpoint it.

Yeah it has keyless entry. When I press the buttons, the lights come on and I can hear the relay click in the dash. I sounds like it is coming from behind the radio. I am going to remove it when I get a chance to see if it is back there. It seems that the late 2001 and the 2002 owners have the biggest problems finding it.

I removed the radio today and still can't find anything. Does anyone have any idea.

On my Lincolns it was also printed on the trunk hinges, you might want to look around the door jambs and possibly peek underneath the weatherstripping. Maybe try under the seats...

MMMM.... That's intresting! I will try that when I get a chance. Thanks!!

Don't know if this helps but when I bought my '97 sport, I took it to my local Ford dealership and they showed my where it was, it was on the hinge of my glass hatch. I cant remeber which side but is printed there on the back window hinge. Hope this helps.

That's intresting. I checked there but didn't see anything. Thanks for the advice though. I can't believe they wouldn't place it some where on the vehicle though.

on my 02 sport it was actually printed on a nice white sticker that was on the underside of the glove box compartment... it would definitely take a flashlight and mirror to get to it tho

not the glove box itself... but the little dingy it sits in

I just bought mine yesterday and didn't have a code for it either. After searching this forum(most replies were in the jack compartment) I found out where my keyless entry box was. I have a 2001 Explorer Sport 4x2 2 Door, and could hear a relay clicking sound behind the passenger side airbag when i would push the buttons on my remote.

I removed the windshield defrost grill that runs from one end of the dash to the other (it just pops out with a screwdriver). Once removed I got out of the car and used a flashlight and pointed it through the windshield on the passenger's side and there it was!. It is a white box with a sticker on top of it with the code I needed. Needless to say the code works and I'm very happy I solved my problem. Hopefully this post will help someone else out.

Hey no problem, glad I could help someone. You did do the hard work for me, at least I knew not to pull the radio or airbag so I took another route since that relay noise was coming from that airbag area. Now this will solve my problem's when my wife locks her keys in the car, thank goodness. I wrote that number in my owners manual and programmed a second code for us to remember easily.

I do own a Mustang GT, it's an 88 model. It's my summer car :burnout: , it stays parked in the winter.

Take care my friend

Thanks!

Thanks ! Thats where mine was good idea on the listening for the relay, mine was on the passenger side dash also!

Sure helped me out. Been looking for that code forever! And too cheap to pay for it, of course.

MustangT....thanks so much! I can't wait to try this when I get home tonight! I have been looking for hours for the code on my 2001 Sport and am tired of the dealer insisting that it's in the jack area. Northing there, and I don't want to make the 2 hour round trip to the dealer where I bought it to avoid the charge to have another Ford dealer find it for me. Thanks again! :bounce:

I tried to remove the defrost grill on top of the dash with a screwdriver, but it wouldn't come off. Any suggestions?
