How to: Find Permanent Keypad Code

I just bought a 97 Eddie Bauer as well. The keypad code is in the left rear compartment. If you remove the door, and pull the top of the compartment edge out a little with your fingers you can see it on the module inside, use a flashlight. Mine was the top number on the module. As for adding a second code you can add but not delete codes. The owners manual discribes how to do this. If you need the instructions to add a number let me know and I'll post them, its easy I just don't have the instructions with me right now.

NM Figured it out :D

When I bough my Ex, in the owner manual carrying case (a blue one with the Ford logo engraved on it, very nice) I found a spare plastic key, credit card sized, also with the Ford logo.

This thing has proved be very useful, because I always carry that spare key in my wallet and every time that I leave my regular keys inside my Ex, (locked, of course) the credit card key save my day. You can not only open the doors, but start the engine too. You can do that whith the keypad only?

BTW, my Ex has no keypad entry system.

Somebody has one of these plastic spare keys?

Really!!! I have never heard of one that late....Maybe it was thrown in as a bonus?...:p

I know it wasn't thrown in by my dealer since he located it up in Michigan and had it driven down to Toledo for me. The only thing he did extra was wash it for me when I picked it up. The first thing I had to do when I left the lot was stop at a gas station. The card was in one of the slots in my blue Ford binder.

can someone post of a pic. of where it would be on a 98 sport?

My 95 came with the plastic key

i think all explorers come with a factory code of 17533. i've tried that code on like 5 different explorers who havent done anything with thier keypad and it worked :D

That won't work on mine but it us very very close!

I just tried that code on a '98 Explorer and it didn't work.

code

The code is located inside the left side rear of the truck. Open the panel and look in front of the washer res. for rear wiper. There is a gray box just up inside the trim panel and just out of reach of the eye, hand etc.. Look at the small screw in front of the box holding it on and remove the screw, (don't drop it) Lift the box up to the 11 oclock position and push in on it as it clears the bracket the number becomes very visable and your code is the large black bold numbers (5of them). Good luck.:redexp:

Key pad

I had the same problem, with my explorer, just take it to a ford dealership and they will take it in and you give you the code for it very easy! One problem, that I came across with this was that the code that they give is the set code for the vehicle (meaning you can reprogram another code for your convince, but, the code that give is still in it) in other words, you have two codes that can access your locks! Nothing you can do about it! Now here’s the problem that I had with mine I didn’t know that until some stranger came up too e in the parking lot 2-3 days ago, and as I was trying to use and said to me can I try something, he opened my doors and I was like what the uck! I was so mad,m I took my car back to ford and they told me they can change the computer for it but it costs like 350-400 dollars to do so!, now the company I bought it form Auto Park doesn’t wont to pick up the tab ;( so I’m going to make a stink at there dealership

falconace: man, FORD tried to rip you off...the code is on your RAP module itself in the jack compartment...

i put a factory keyless entry myself and the code on that RAP module worked...so if you want to change your code...get a different RAP module from a junkyard and plug it in...you might have to reset it...
RAP modules are from:
95-97, 98-01....
for 98-01...turn your key from accessory to off position 8x's and the doors will lock and unlock...then push the button on the remote up to 4 remotes...remember, you must do all remotes during that time you set it...

Hey, I just found mine on my 2001 XLT. It was in the rear of the truck where the jack is stowed away. It is on the white module(CPU/Computer Module), as said before, that has the wire bundles connected into them. I almost took off the whole interior wall panel trying to be able to read it but couldn't take off the bolt that holds the seatbelt strap up on the wall. Man, they must gorilla-torque that bolt on. But I got the panel out just enough to make out the numbers. Just thought I'd post this so that people with the 2001 Explorer knows where its located. I'd highly advise people to look for the number themselves rather than pay $50-$150, thats a huge rip-off.
