How to: Find Permanent Keypad Code

Thats right, it is quite easy if you just try and look for it yourself. I just hope people will stop being lazy and going to their dealer to charge them to look it up for them. It is really just encouraging them to keep piling up these unncessary fees.

I have a 2003 xlt where is my code located?

Computer Module?

Is the computer module located in the same place on a '01 explorer sport? I checked in the jack compartment and I did not see any white box all I saw was the yellow box for the rear seat belt.

Someone else suggested that the later models have it under the front top edge of the dash. There is a panel at the windshield which can be pryed up and off.
I have'nt seen one, but I will bet that they are a similar size(4x4x3") as others. Its a black plastic box, with a sticker on one side with the code on it. If you change the whole box with one from another like vehicle, you will have a different code.

To add a second code to the permanent code, enter the main code, then press 0-1, then enter the new desired code. It will remain until changed, or the power is lost. Good luck,
DonW

Well I pulled of that piece of the dash like you suggested but nothing all I saw was the main computer. Thanks for the help anyway

'01 (especially Sports) always seem to be the most difficult Xs to find the RAPs on. I think I have heard of 3 different spots proven to house it. Here are some other's experiences with finding the RAP module on +/-'01s

"I removed the windshield defrost grill that runs from one end of the dash to the other (it just pops out with a screwdriver). Once removed I got out of the car and used a flashlight and pointed it through the windshield on the passenger's side and there it was!. It is a white box with a sticker on top of it with the code I needed. Needless to say the code works and I'm very happy I solved my problem. Hopefully this post will help someone else out."

"Ford decided to move the keyless entry module from the jack area on earlier Explorers to behind the c-pillar trim on the right side. The c-pillar is the pillar next to the second row seat. This can be hard and expensive if you do not know how to properly remove the trim panels. First you need to remove the upper trim panel where the upper seat belt anchor is. Then fold the second row seat forward. You do not need to remove the entire right side quarter trim but you need to release it along the
front edge. You should be able to pull the panel out far enough to see the code. It will be a five digit number. Hope this helps."

"It may be behind the passenger side airbag. On Rangers they mount the keyless entry unit there and it may be there on some explorers as well. Drop the glove compartment by pushing the sides in and let it drop down. Take out the 2 bolts above the glove compartment that hold the airbag in and it may be a gray or white box behind the airbag. Here's a picture of where it is in a Ranger -- it's the white box held in by 2 screws in the upper left of the picture."

Thanks for the help I will surely give them a try

Finally!!!

Thanks alot Robb and CDW6212R! I pulled the dash piece off again and shined my flashlight through the windshield and sure enough there was the white box. The number was a little hard to read on it but thankfully it works. Thanks alot for your guys help, Oh and Robb I think it is the American dream anymore to be Mikey Teutul, at least it should be.

Yep,
On the late models it is just ABOVE the pass. side air bag, under the black plastic vent cover. Pry up the pass side of the vent cover, leave a screwdriver or something to keep the cover up, lay yer head on your hood and shine the flashlight thru the windshield. It will be on top on the module. 5 bold digits on the decal.

I found the box behind the passenger side airbag. It was easier for me to remove the glove box and then the air bag to remove the white box because the code numbers are REAL HARD to read otherwise. Thanks to ROBB and everyone who helped out.

Hey guys, I'm a new used 00 explorer sport owner. Asked the dealer if he knew the code and got "Honestly no one really uses it. I don't know." as a reply. Guy was a real jag. But anyway stumbled across this on accident when i was lookin into the air bag light problems. Found my code back in the rear panel with the jack in it. You all rock, you've already helped me figure out a boat load of stuff about my truck.

Just snagged the pics of my '98 Sport. Happened to have my camera in-hand as I walked past the back of it.

Step 1: Find the jack compartment.

Step 2: Open the jack compartment and look towards the front of the opening.

Step 3: Look for the white box at the front of the opening. On teh face there will be a sticker with a bar code. The original factory code will be on this sticker.

Hope this helps a few people.
