From what I've read, it's a common problem that the light in the keypad goes bad. People have said it has to be replaced because it's a sealed unit with no accessible bulb. Mine's been burnt out for years, and I changed my code to something I can do in the dark. Here's my question -
Has anyone tried opening it up and fixing the bulb? What's involved, and how difficult is it? I know removing the keypad is not a big deal.
If it's really not doable, what does a new one cost?

Yes there is. I remember mine working. One night I went outside and hit a random button like I always do to get the pad to light up and SUPRISE, no more light.

JonahW, I don't think I've ever heard of anyone opening the keypad up. You could give it a try though.

I'm considering doing that. I just didn't want to be the guinnea pig for the group. I was hoping to learn from someone else's mistakes!

i think i remember someone saying it's kinda expensive to replace. i think it's more than just replacing a bulb, something like replacing the whole switch. do a search and you'll find it. i'm almost psitive it was something like that. that's why i have'nt replaced mine yet. good luck;)

hmm, well i havent replaced mine cause it probably burned out before i started using the car :p then again, i hardly ever use it, i think i can do without a light

i use it all the time and trust me the light is just cosmetic. it would be nice, but you get so used to where the numbers are, you don't really need it. if it is a cheap fix, then hey why not, but it's not worth it if it's expensive.
