Since your a Cubs fan, Ill help you out. The factory code can not be removed, but it can be changed if your good with electronics. Its not easy and involves removing resistors and replacing them with different values inside the PATS module. If you do some searching here you will find out how. What I would suggest is just unplugging the keypad. Remove the drivers side door panel find the wire to the key pad and unplug it. How often do you use that anyway?

Also, Im not sure but on some model years if a personal code is entered the factory code will be deactivated. You may want to try this.

Programming a personal entry code
To create your own personal entry code:
1. Enter the factory set code.
2. Within five seconds press the 1 • 2 on the keypad.
3. Enter your personal 5-digit code. Each number must be entered
within five seconds of each other.
4. The doors will again lock then unlock to confirm that your personal
keycode has been programmed to the module.
Tips:
• Do not set a code that uses five of the same number.
• Do not use five numbers in sequential order.
• The factory set code will work even if you have set your own personal
code.
• If you set a second personal code it will erase your first personal code.
Erasing personal code
1. Enter the factory set 5–digit code.
2. Within five seconds, press the 1 • 2 on the keypad and release.
3. Press and hold the 1 • 2 for two seconds. This must be done within
five seconds of completing step 2.
Your personal code is now erased and only the factory set 5–digit code
will work.

As far as I know the only way to change the factory code is through the dealer. Adding or changing the personal code does not disable the factory code. The factory code is located on the security module. I wonder if changing the module with one from a junkyard may do the trick? This may be cheaper than going to the dealer to change the code.

To locate the module check out this thread, thanks to Welli for a great write-up!!:

I don't know if changing the module with one from the junkyard will work or have any adverse effects. :salute:

Thats the ticket. From what i've seen the Code is dependent on the BCM, Body Control module, hence the white sticker on the side of it. Just find another module, from the same year (although 02-05 should work) and swap it in, that way you get new keypad code. The BCM is passenger side 'C' pillar black box with a code on it, there are threads with pics. Just disconnect the battery, unscrew the old one, and unplug it. You might find one fleabay. . .

Note: you might have to re-programm the keys due to them being PATSII, not sure where that information is stored but i'd guess BCM, since you get an new/old one the keys codes may go with the module. Dealer only and or some locksmiths can reprogram the keys. You could buy your own, and see if a dealer will swap it for you, all of it shouldn't take more than an hours labor, unless the shop is starving. No more than $200 tops. . otherwise i'd start calling around. Don't let them sell you a new one.

I always use the factory code too always wondered if someone saw me punch in the code, i'd be SOL.

Let me tell you what I have learned about BCM's while attempting to fix my Sisters van. If you replace it with a junk yard one you will be locked out. The PATS system will not recognize any of your keys and Ford does not have a retrain process for this (all keys lost). It will need to go to the dealer. Next thing that will happen is if you have a digital odometer your mileage will change to what ever was on the junk yard car. Your air-bag light will come on, because the BCM no longer has the correct serial numbers for the devices. Your radio may stop working if it has serial number protection in it. Your remote wont work anymore. The outside keypad may work, but thats all. So you may think no big deal, Ill just tow it over to the dealer and have them reprogram it, wrong. They wont, you will need to buy a new module for around 800 bucks and pay all the labor charges to set it up. If you want to get rid of that factory code I would suggest taking the BCM apart and finding the procedure to replace one of the five resistors that set the code.
Are we positive the factory codes works after you program in a personal one. I have never tried it because I dont remember the factory code, but I will pull it off the BCM and try it latter.
Also if its a big problem just disconnect the thing. How often do you use it? Or take the keypad apart and switch around a couple wires, like switch 1-2 with 9-0, that should do it.

Bob, I am positive that the factory code remains with a personal code created. It states that in my owner's manual and both my personal code and my factory code work. I do like the idea of changing the wires for the number keys. Stud469 did a write-up on changing the Keyless Entry keypad bulb color change. This shows the details of the keypad. His is a '97 so the '04 may be totally different. His write up is located here: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums//showthread.php?t=193400

Maybe swap the wires around at the connector inside the door or just unplug it rendering it useless? :salute:

Keypad Wire Swap

Ok, here ya go, this looks easy enough to me.

keypad-vi.jpg

So open up the door panel and swap the Read and Yellow wires, now 9-0 is 7-8 and 7-8 is 9-0.

Or find the BCM and swap the wires there.

Bob

I should also say, I pulled this from the 2000 service manual. But it should be easy enough to figure out for any other year if the color code doesnt match.

Nice work Bob! I'm going to be working on my '02 this afternoon and will try to check out the back of the keypad to get the wiring color codes. :salute:

I would bet its the same color code.

Also if you do this, be courteous to the next owner and write the altered factory code inside the glove box with a Sharpie. Because obviously there is no way to recover it. Even a dealer would have a hell of a time figuring this one out.

Gained access to the back of the keypad but there is a connector and no way to tell what wire goes to what button. :salute:

Bob, that is genius thinking. You can change codes easily, just by switching a couple of wires. And it sounds like Cubsgirl needs something to keep the phsyco out of her ex. I don't need this, but I'll keep it in mind if someone else does.

I agree. That Bob guy is somewhat of a genius!! :notworthy:notworthy:bounce:

Dont screw with the keypad!

Its not about the key-pad, dont tamper with that. Just look at the wires leading from it, pull back the jacket and check the wire colors. If they dont match what I posted from the 2K service manual, then Ill explain in detail how to trace it out from the keypad.

No you cant! Once you switch wires around everything changes. You would need a cheat sheet just to program in a user code. And I think Cubsgirl has more problems then just that keypad. :)

No, I dont think so.

I was away from my office working today so I did not get a chance to post more info. Switching wires around is a quick fix for changing the factory code. I may have found a better way.

I am extremely busy this week with work. And I dont want to post anything that Im not 100% on. Give me a couple days to get caught up with work and Ill have a solid answer to this.

Peace Out,
Bob

p.s. With the Hawks game tomorrow, I may never even make it home. :D

Bob, I know how you feel. Wait a minute, I'm a Bruins fan so I don't know how you feel. In fact I haven't felt that since the early '70's. Oh well I still have the Celtics. Either way I hope cubsgirl21 will be able to get her situation under control. It appears that she has checked out since her original post. :salute:
