Most people say the tube is only for looks and doesnt help performance. Also most people here use the KKM.

I have the ifab one (not the tube, just the cone filter and adapter to connect to the Mass Air Meter). I love mine. ifab has an ebay account and the had some on ebay, picked mine up for a pretty good price. I think I paid half the cost of the kkm to esentially get the same thing. Increased my mpg and power, also gives the engine a nice growl when you get on it.

how doesnt the 3" intake tube add any power? and will a explorer express 70mm mas fit on the ifab intake..

this is what im looking for.. i need more all around power since i already have exhaust i think a intake will add some nice numbers(8-10hp) and is $150 a good deal on the ifab intake?

o man sorry, i just realized my mistake, i didnt read you saying stock. If your X is there you can probally go out and measure it though.

ok well im thinking about building my own intake tube.

do you think 3.5" is to big of a intake tube.

what does a engine do when to much air is going to it?

Thats easy, it'll gain power as if it's being forced fed by a supercharger and you'll gain HP, but then again it's not being force fed a bigger tube may not or very little difference will show cause the engine will only take what it can consume on its own. Now if you get an BBK throttle body then you can feel and gain some HP for sure.

im thinking about getting a 70mm mass air sensor and the bbk 66mm throttle body
i think that will really gain some good hp.

I heard anything over 3" without a S/C will lower the power, and you won't get 14hp from an intake.

well im just going to try to get forced air with a 3" custom intake pipeing

maybe after then make a 3.5" pipeing and see which one gives better performance

and aftermarket intake tubes for jeeps are 3.5" soo.. i dont know if they will give less power

i think i will get a good 10hp out of a custom intake.. but it is going to have fresh air going to it.

Where will you get "fresh air" from? Our X's need torque, and you won't see 22ft/lb as that Chevy intake claims. BTW, that's for a 454. V8's, especially that size, see much bigger gains with mods like this. I've got a custom intake and don't boast a 10hp gain because I don't think it's there.

Okay!!

The 3" or 3.5" tube size debate is kinda stupid because the intake will only take what the throttle boby will take (ie 3.5" won't gain anything). You could put a 8" tube on there, it won't make any difference.

And how are you creating "forced air" out of your intake? not that it would make any difference to your engine.

i was thinking of making fresh air come though the grille and up over the raditor..

and the 3.5 intake tube is for a 4.0L jeep
